Would Sky pick up on this and refuse a contract?

Hi all,
My husband and I moved into his parents house (they've moved out) just over a year ago, we took on the Sky contract which is in his dad's name...we want to take one of Sky's package deals as a new customer (Broadband, TV & Phone) but we're concerned that if we cancel the contract that currently stands in his dad's name and try and open a contract in hubbies name they might refuse? The only thing that would be changing is the initial. Address will be the same, surname the same, bank details the same (although there is an option to use a different bank) - but they are two different people and we're not lying about the fact we'd be new customers!!
Can Sky refuse us from signing up?

Sky will never refuse to open an account!!!
What they may do (or at least used to do) if they subsequently find you are not a new customer however is charge you the full cost of all the equipment and installation etc. It used to be about £5000 -
Try giving Sky a ring and ask them? Maybe if you explain it to their retention department they can do you a deal or something? Might just need to transfer the account to a fresh one?Failure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
If its important to you, you'll find a way - if not, you'll find an excuse ! ~ Easy to say when you take money out of the equation!

Not take your money? Fat chance. There wonlt be a problem, but you'll need to point out the difference.0

OP are you dumb? Why dont you ring them.
You can transfer the account into your name. You need the Dad there though to pass security and confirm this.
Also, there are cancellation charges involved.
If the contract is up and it is rolling, you can ring them and say you want to leave. then when they put you through to the upgrades team, rinse a deal from them and then get the account transferred.0 -

And I'm sure an attitude like that would "rinse" a great deal. I'd get the father in law to cancel then sign back up in your hubbies name. New customers always get a better deal than ones the retentions will give you. My dad used to work for sky. It just has to be a different name (not surname) and the same bank account was fine.I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0 -

How will my attitude affext the OP's options with Sky?
New customers dont get better deals than retentions. You are not haggling enough if this is the way you think.
You dont take into account cancellation fees (if they apply) It would be more expensive to cancel and renew (regardless of new customer perks) than to just transfer the contract over.
ALWAYS try both ways. First go down the retentions route. If that dopesnt work then sign up new. You have alot of options.
Dont limit yourself.0 -
Calling them dumb is the attitude bit .They've been living there for over a year so more than likely out of contract = no cancellation feesI would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0

You will not be able to just simply transfer the contract into your name as this is not a Sky policy. It will involve your dad cancelling his account and then you calling up as a new customer, explaining the situation and setting up a brand new account in your name.
Your dad must cancel before you call up as the account will need to show that it is cancelling down before your order can be placed0 -
wow dumb, nice way to help some one. I have PM'ed you OP i needed to do the same thing not so long ago0
