Ooh that house sounds an exciting prospect, Vix. I did something similar in that new house plus stamp duty was almost exactly what I got for old house. It was kind reassuring to know I wasn't taking on an extra debt although admittedly I got a lot less house for my money (and a whole heap of work) but it's in a city I'm unlikely to ever lose money on - or at least that's the plan! Have you had any more interest in your place?Choose kind5

Crikey, that's an impressive rhubarb!
Exciting about the potential house, fingers crossed! Would be ace to be able to move debt free. And if it means you can sell yours for a bit less (which might make it go more quickly) then that's a great result. Well done on the extra savings too, you're on fire!4 -
Morning all,
Yes, the rhubarb is rather enthusiastic! It clearly likes the spot it has!
Thanks for sharing Hazelnutty - it's good to know that moving without taking on more debt is a possibility and can work out well! We've had a steady stream of viewings, but there's always something not quite right. I mean, the ones earlier in the week didn't like it because the road comes down at the back, so people tend to use the back gates rather than the front (which is just a footpath) - when you're a FTB is this really a deal-breaker? (In our town this is *very* common). If we dropped the price (if we liked the other house), it might open it up to other people, but I'm not betting people would be making offers left, right and centre (which I really don't get, I always thought this would be easy to sell - beginning to think people are being very fussy, but I guess that is *our* problem, not theirs).
Thanks Cheery, I was rather pleased to find the savings, although I usually know that they're there, it's just I don't scoop them up too often. At the moment though, it's kind of necessary to make sure everything possible is earning *something* at least!
Hoping to hear my test results today, so we can actually make some plans/know whether we're going away at the weekend. In the meantime, I have plenty of work to get on with. I have already been for a quick walk around the block - the scales have not been kind to me recently and inactivity has been a big part of this. Am aiming for 10k steps every day this week, no snacking (unless healthy - i.e. a carrot) and yoga at least 10 mins per day. This will be an improvement! (More strenuous activity can resume when this cough has shifted.) Must also do some evening class homework.
MS things:
* Clicks
* Work
* Sri Lankan runner bean curry for dinner to use up the many runner beans
* Knitted dishcloths during the F1
Gratitudes:
* The sun is shining
* Tea
* Rhubarb crumble for pud last night (was the high point of a fairly disastrous meal!)

Mmm, rhubarb crumble 😍
Sorry to hear people are being so fussy about your house. Mind you, I'm sure I gave what must have sounded like some spurious reasons for not wanting various places we saw. Sometimes they just didn't 'feel right', but that's not very helpful feedback for a seller is it?? I always tried to be more specific, but it was hard, and I might well have come up with something daft sounding like some of yours. Very frustrating though.
I think it's quite an odd time at the minute anyway, which won't help. I had a rightmove alert for a house next door but one to our old one - they've just reduced the price by £15k after 6 weeks on the marketwhen we sold we had several offers on the first day - every single one over the asking price
but we'd priced against other terraces, most of which had been used as student rentals, and ours was much nicer. They're selling a semi, and have obviously used what we sold ours for as a guide (perhaps not realizing we sold for £15k over asking because we took it off the market and waited for our buyer to sell their house...).
Anyway, waffling. I just mean that maybe it's a funny time - houses on our old road would have been snapped up before but clearly not now. Maybe people are still being a bit cautious re jobs etc? Don't give up hope though, you WILL get there! Xx5 -
Thanks Cheery, feel free to waffle away.
I think you're right, and I also know that we're getting far fewer viewings because the FTBs aren't around at the moment. And I get why non-FTBs are fussy, they've got something to compare to and more wiggle room in the budget potentially. It is what it is, it's just a bit frustrating.
I still haven't heard back about my test results, but ominously my Mum has started coughing... She can't get a test yet though, although she is trying. She has my niece today and is bubbled with my Sister and Partner, who have both, of course, gone to workThis is now causing me stress, that they are breaking the rules! I can't do anything about it (Mum knows they shouldn't have gone to work and I think will say something when Niece is collected, so sticking my oar in will only cause grief), so I just need to let it go.
Work is progressing well, I've been for a second fast walk around the block (gosh, it's hot out there!), no snacks (but might have a carrot shortly), and have claimed £39 from PA for the ongoing survey I was doing.Have also got back off the ground on 1P with a 15p survey and RM survey pack turned up, so I've prepared all of that for next week (2 cubes!). I think YG know I'm at claim point and are not inviting me for surveys - haven't had any in a week now.
