Afternoon all,
Thanks NG - I'm looking forward to it, but hadn't realised that the real death mask is in Cairo and won't ever be leaving. I think there's a replica but I think the advertising is very iffy - it should be made clear that the death mask won't be there. My Dad saw it in Egypt though when he was there in November.
Thanks Cheery!
Popped to see my furry charges this morning and then to Wickes as out back fence is threatening to fall onto driveway (and thus brand new car :eek: ) in the winds. DH is coming home for lunch en route to a meeting (car swapping too!) so is hopefully going to sort that out then with the bolts I bought.
Work has really picked up all of a sudden, so I've been cracking on with that and making some more naans this morning (partly to have with lunch and more for the freezer while we've got yoghurt in for them).
MS things:
* We really need to sell the old car - no interest so far, but DH had to insure the new one yesterday and obviously his NCB is all linked to the old car, so it's costing a fortune at the moment. We've got until 12 Feb to get rid of it as that's when insurance renewal is. We've advertised it in a couple of specialist places so far, but no interest. Will have to consider our options (annoyingly we'd really have to be desperate to find some driveway to SORN it - Dad has space but I know he doesn't want the car there).
* Clicks etc. Sent my friend a rundown of all survey sites etc. that I use as she needs a bit of an income boost (also self-employed) -she was very grateful (and it reminded me of how much benefit they have).
* Work, work, work!
CC is + £6.36 for bolts for fence. No additional food costs as yet.
Gratitudes:
* Lots of work
* Sunshine here today after the storms of last night
* DH home for lunch

or whenever it was. And yes, its beautiful, has a presence and all that, but the items that *are* on display are more informative in a lot of ways, telling you a lot more about the life and the culture and the people than the mask ever could. Even though its so brilliant. I hope that doesn't tarnish the experience for you.

Hey Karma, I am still looking forward to the King Tut exhibition - I'm sure it'll be very impressive regardless. I just think it's naughty how it was advertised.
DH came home at lunchtime and fixed the fence in 5 minutes - amazingly!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Re your old car - you should still have it insured irrespective of a SORN - so storing it won't help (much) with the premium - although some insurers will improve (reduce) the premium if it is off the road and in secure storage (like a motorhome in a secure storage facility) - not ours, I might add, which is on the drive but SORN'dSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

I thought you didn't need to insure a SORN car if it was kept off road? I took ours off the insurance a few weeks ago and left it on the drive til it was collected.
But I suppose it depends if you're worried about anything happening to the car itself. Ours only ever had third party insurance anyway and was waiting to be scrapped so if a tree had landed on it, it wouldn't have mattered0 -
Morning all,
Thanks SL and Cheery - unless I'm missing something, that was where my thoughts were Cheery. The car we're selling is not really worth insuring if it's off-road as the cost to insure both is almost half the value of the car. I think we'd risk it. Alternatively, if it was SORNed the insurance company might be more willing to transfer the NCB to the new car, which would certainly save some money if we did continue to insure both.
Had a lovely meal out with DH's friend last night and DH paidIt was very reasonable actually - probably as we all stuck to water and didn't have desserts - £15/person seems pretty good for a starter and main each (and it was delicious
).
My furry charges have been seen to. (Detail for Karma, feel free to ignore if you're not a cat person!) They are quite bonkers - they have a long tunnel which they absolutely love and run into and then slide it across the kitchen floor. We have a play each time I visit - the tunnel is a great place to catch the mouse from and takes a lot of abuse from paws and heads appearing (it has holes in the side).
Continuing with work this morning (with my fingerless gloves on). Mum due to call round for a cuppa soon as she has an appointment nearby.
MS things:
* Clicks etc. done
* NV survey done
* Lunch from stores (out of freezer)

* A nice evening last night
* Sunshine here this morning, although it's cold!
* Fingerless gloves - so snuggly and helping to keep the heating off!

My niece in law notices how different the cats are, on their return, depending on whether they've had me there as a human presence, or they've been on their own when someone else has been popping in (eg for a few days, or over Christmas) - they're much more sociable when I've been there2023: the year I get to buy a car0
