Online Heating Oil Scam

It seems quite a few people have been paying for Heating Oil and not getting it delivered http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17314734
I have used a couple of online suppliers and have not had a problem although I have since read bad reports about one of them.
Last time I ordered I looked online for a price and then rang a few local suppliers and the cheapest price was with a local supplier.
It seems the cheapest way is to get a few neighbours together and buy in bulk but from what I have seen it only saves a couple of pence a litre. Is it worth the hassle?

Depends on the order size. A 2p difference in price on 2000 litres can = a saving of £40.
Only you can decide if that is worth the hassle to you.
I too tend to use online quotes to shop around, but then end up with one of my 2 or 3 local suppliers who match the price, don't charge for credit card payment, will accept a flexible 'fill the tank' instruction, and can be trusted.
Buying more than the various thresholds (eg 1100 litrs, 2000, 5000) tends to drop the price by 1 - 4 ppl0 -
There is a very similar scam going on which involves diesel fuel. They take your money and deliver nothing. I have recently been scammed by this 'company' - buyreddiesel.co.uk. It has been reported and West Yorkshire Police are currently investigating, but the web site is still up and the scam may still be operating - DO NOT BUY FROM THIS 'COMPANY'.
I can provide further details if anyone wants them.
