O2 long weekend tariff

Hello there,
I bought a 12 months O2 contract (400 minutes anytime cross network, 35 pounds a month) from Phones4 u.I am a bit confused about this O2 long weekend offer.From the website I could see that I can get O2 long weekend offer for 6 months (unlimited call - maximum 2000 minutes a month- at the weekend and on Monday) as my monthly tariff is 35 pounds.

Does this mean that in addition to my original 400 cross networks minutes per month, I could get another extra 2000 minutes to be used from Saturday to Monday each week?

Some people are saying this extra minutes from O2 long week end can not be used in calling 0870, 0845, 0844 numbers.If it is the case, would I be able to use my original 400 minutes to cal 0870, 0844 and 0845 numbers then?

I could be mistaken - it appears to apply to o2 online tariffs only (strangely I think that most retailers sell the o2 High Street tariff, which is not eligible for this promotion). From the o2 website:

Pay Monthly O2 Long Weekends

1. The "Long Weekend" offer is available to new and upgrading customers only between 27th November 2006 and 31st March 2007 on eligible Online Pay Monthly plans subject to the terms below. O2 reserves the right to withdraw or amend this offer at any time on reasonable notice. Participating customers will receive 30 days notice via text message before promotional minutes are withdrawn.
2. Eligible £35+ per month pay monthly plans include; Online 35 Texter, Online 40 Texter, Online 50 Texter, Online 35 Talker, Online 40 Talker, Online 50 Talker, Online 35 Standard 12M, Online 40 Standard 12M, Online 50 Standard 12M. Customers moving to an ineligible plan will lose all long weekend benefits.
3. Eligible 18 month contract customers can call free from their mobile to standard UK Landlines and UK mobiles from 12 midnight Friday until 12 midnight Monday every month subject to the usage limit stated below.
4. Eligible 12 month contract customers can call free from their mobile to standard UK Landlines and UK mobiles from 12 midnight Friday until 12 midnight Monday for 6 months subject to usage limit stated below.
5. A usage limit of 2,000 minutes to UK mobiles and UK landlines per billing month applies. Calls to 0844, 0845 and 0870 numbers are excluded from the free long weekend minute allowance.
6. Long weekend minute allowances must be used within the month. Unused allowances cannot be carried over into subsequent months.
7. Long weekend minutes will be decremented before standard pay monthly plan minutes.

O2 Long Weekends is only available when purchasing a contract through one of O2's direct channels (O2 store, o2.co.uk, O2 telesales). It is not available when buying from an indirect channel like P4U.

Promotions like these are used to lure conumsers away from the indirect channels. All they really seem to do is confuse customers!

It does indeed cause confusion - particularly when places like CPW do not offer this promotion on their monthly tariffs (as you say, only available from o2 direct), but then contradict this by offering the offer on the PAYG (!).

Yep, PAYG is totally different as long weekends are available regardless of whether you use a direct or indirect channel to buy the handset.
