If you want to go to poundland, these will last a lot longer than the 10+1

alkaline batteries always out perform zinc batteries, and as a bonus and if you happen to have one they can also be recharged using a "battery genie" its a battery charger designed to recharge normal batteries aswell as NiHm and ni-cad
but you can only recharge upto about 10times.0 -
I tried rechargeables too. Bought a good brand and decent charger. They lasted in my doorbell for example about 2 weeks. Poundland Kodak last 2+ months. No contest really.
Lithium for my digital camera and Poundland for everything else works well for me.0 -
In a Which? survey, the Lidl brand (Aerocell) ones performed as well as Duracell but cost a lot less.0

Trouble with cheap batteries is they don't last very long; you may end up buying them more frequently than others.
To date I've tried 7dayshops regular rechargeable batteries, Fameart’s (also from 7dayshops though not sure if they still sell them) and Vapextech’s which are apparently a top notch battery. 7dayshops regular and Fameart batteries appear OK though may not last as long as Vapextech low self discharge batteries.

I started buying rechargeables as I thought they would be cheaper buying these rather than the regular alkaline non-rechargeable type.
If you decide to get rechargeables then I would consider getting a delta-v circuit charger. I currently have a 808LCD 7dayshop Battery Charger which is selling for £7.79 at the moment. For the batteries, get anything over 2500mAh if you can.
Have a look also at the AA Low Self Discharge Battery Review.
Otherwise try searching HotUKDeals for best current offers on alkaline batteries.

Good rechargeable batteries have the lowest price per use and can be convenient too as you don't need to keep buying more. The key point here is the word good, as a lot of rechargeable batteries aren't that good, they self discharge fast and don't seem to power appliances for very long either. Sanyo eneloop batteries however work exceptionally well on both points, plus with the right charger you can recharge them in one hour.
I have a cynical feeling the poor quality rechargeable batteries from big brands who are more familiar as selling disposables are purposefully disappointing, because they do after all want you to keep buying disposables, a product they make most their money from.0
