I'll just have to wait and see, its not a problem waiting until later in the year.

Wallbash, I don't really see the point of you posting a reply like that?!

I read a posting ( yours) who asked for advice about a quote . You asked for a quote , you got a quote , then too many ( you included) started to object to the price quoted .
Price quoted is not a 'winning' bid BUT is far from being a rip off.
If the original guy ever read this thread , he is due an apology .

Ps if you don't like my point ......... I won't lose any sleep over it.
  • We have an agricultural college nearby and they will often recommend graduates who have gone on to set up in business as tree surgeons. Prices are good because they are just starting out, but they know what they are doing.

    might not be very MSE-ish

I keep seeing posts where mse'r say they believe in decent wages for all, but I'm not so sure we all believe this. Personaly I like to pay a fair price and ensure others can feed thier family well. PS - not at all picking you out, it just strikes me that there is a tension where we want to be mseish but at the same time a lot of claim to be nice fair minded folk who belive in everyone earbing a decent crust.

    Night, glad you found someone.

But you've only quoted a little of what she says, she continued to say nice and bet he was happy.
It was me who had paid the chap more than he quoted for the work, I believed he had gone in with a low price as it was December, he was short of work, and really needed the job. He did a superb job which is why I paid him what I thought it was worth, which was more than he asked for.
the following week he also did some work for a couple of our friends on our recommendation.
A good deal is when both sides are happy.

Apology :rotfl: when the he was double the price, I don't think so! If you got your head out of your rear end you might be able to make sense of it!! :p

I think next time I'll wait until I've had a few quotes before posting!

Right, now I will tell you what I had done:

2x 20' elms, one dead and one due to die, taken down & logged.
1 x 25' wild cherry, diseased, cut down & logged.
    1 x 20' Tulip tree, unsuitable & diseased, cut down & logged.

All small branches chipped = 3 x dumpy bags (but as labourer I did that bit.) ;)

Total cost £60. I paid £70, but the price was based on my friend's standard rate of £12 an hour, which he charges to most customers.
Only the elms required climbing + one handed chainsaw.

In 2 years I shall have more than £70 worth of logs.:D

Living in the country is better for this sort of thing. (But it's not great for nipping to the supermarket!:()

There are good tree surgeons and there are cheap tree [STRIKE]surgeons[/STRIKE] choppers, but there are very rarely, good, qualified, fully experienced, insured, properly self employed ................... and cheap, tree surgeons.
