Friday afternoon nostalgia - My first credit card
Comments

remember when credit cards were mailed en masse and that was you accepted and given credit straight away?!
interesting information about Access... never knew they were MasterCard!
According to wikipedia, Maestro are also owned by MasterCard (the symbol kind of gives it away though) but Maestro still use the old Switch network. It probably won't be long until Maestro are extinct too as many banks are either moving to VISA or Debit MasterCard, and when it comes to online use Maestro are admittedly a bit pap.Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
I loved my old Switch card (I think it shows!)
My first CC was back in 2001. I was offered a HSBC MasterCard with £750 limit.
Credit was a lot easier to obtain 'back in day' lol0 -
My first credit card was a "Student Barclaycard", which I believe was VISA (though not 100% sure on that).
The limit was £100 initially, but steadily rose to the dizzy heights of £500 before they started charging a £10 annual fee, at which point I ditched it.
I still have the same Current Account I opened when I was a teenager. My first ever "proper" account (excluding "junior saver" type accounts). Although it's changed names and features several times, the sort code and account number are still the same!0 -
my first credit card was an access one, i got it as soon as i was 18 back in 1983 and my first purchase was a pair of red leather stilettos with cut away sides and a matching handbag which i bought from a shop in the arnedale centre, Manchester.
i still remember the thrill as they put my card in the machine and pulled it across to print the receipt. ah, memories'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
Got my Barclaycard in 1981 and bought a music centre for £139. It played Duran Duran non-stop for about 2 weeks
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

I remember Access. Definitely a very strong brand
The days of the manual swipe machine where if you spent over a certain amount they would ring up for an authorization number
And when you applied for credit cards via those flyers through the post, esp barclaycard that seemed to come through all the timeHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

If it was rubbish why didn't you take it back?Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -
My first card was with Access issued by Natwest in 1972. I had a £150 limit. They would not give me an increase as they said they were concerned about my credit worthiness.
How things have changed since then!0
