Legality of parking on residential roads?

If 2 cars can pass you can get an artic in.0

So another thread where the OP comes expecting everyone to agree with them, then finds out the legalities and gets in a strop.
I was not saying it is not reasonable to want to park on your road, I was saying that LEGALLY SPEAKING the lorry driver is in the right. And clearly you could get out the way of the lorry by going onto the pavement if you did not want to reverse onto the dual carriageway. It is not a "sickening comment" to say that large vehicles run the risk of running over children when reversing, it is a FACT as they cannot see anything directly behind them, which is why trying to force them to reverse is so stupid.0 -

If you're lucky you can go on the pavement (and at that time we were). The first time it happened there were cars parked on the road, and a bollard at the top, so there was no option but to reverse into the road, in rush hour traffic - how can that be reasonable???0 -

How is that any more reasonable than expecting a vehicle 53ft long to which by your own admission already has difficulty manouvering?
Perhaps if the driver of your car was competent and looked a bit further ahead than the end of their bonnet, they'd have seen what might and did happen by driving into the road and waited until the lorry had exited. Its called engaging ones brain.
I'm coming to the conclusion you don't actually drive.0 -

Additionally, if you mess up and hit something with your car worst case is a dent or scrape, if an HGV hits someone/something they will not know about it and will continue reversing, crushing a person or writing off a car.
Unfortunately many drivers simply aren't aware of how different it is driving a car and HGV and so don't drive considerately. I have had to get out and reverse other people's cars on narrow roads because they "can't reverse", despite them being 10 yards from a passing place, and expecting me to reverse back 200 yards instead.0 -

So given the above & the garage has another entrance, why is this one driver taking his truck up this road?
In fact, why would any artic driver take his truck up any residential street unless he really had no choice? I wouldn't in mine....Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Obviously I don't know the situation but there must be some good reason, I doubt he drives up there for the kicks of being stuck for 45 mins and shouted at by residents. My guess would be that the garage have called up his company and had a go at them for using the other entrance and told them they lose the custom if they don't deliver to the back entrance.0 -

None of us (apart from the OP) know the situation so why are some jumping to conclusions RE: bad car drivers etc?
If this is trueThe council installed concrete bollards along the corners of the road, to prevent the lorries coming through and mounting the kerb, damaging the pavement & kerbsAlways try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

If you have to reverse onto a DC at least reverse the right way, so people can see your reverse lights!0 -
For me it was when the OP said they reversed onto a dual carriageway the wrong way, facing oncoming traffic.

I can see that might be a little dangerousAlways try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0
