I had problems using my debit card attached to my Cashminder account, despite there being sufficient funds in the account.

After calling the Co-op and their staff looking into the matter, it transpired that my debit card expired at the end of February and they did not issue a replacement card. I have now been issued a new card, which I should receive in "5 to 7 working days"....

Anyone else ever have this happen? It's a good job I have a second basic account with Lloyds TSB into which I could transfer funds online and access money that way.

Did you not notice the expiration date?

just curious is all, i always make sure i ask for a card in advance so there isnt a chance of a gap between card expiry to getting my new card

I didn't notice the expirydate as I'd not used the card for about a week due to a period of illness. Still, I'm surprised and dissapointed that the Co-op didn't notice either :D

A complaint letter sent off to them on Friday 9th March.

Is there a reason why it took you so long to realise your card had expired.

Generally debit cards will still work upto a month after it expires.

Not entirely true. After the end of the month printed on the card, they won't work. (The cards expire at the end of that month.)

Well it's been true many times in my circumstances. My last Lloyds TSB card still worked for weeks after its expiry. In fact the same happened with my last Natwest card aswell. Should I raise a concern?

COOP Bank claim that they will pay £15 in these circumstances

    http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1193206375657,CFSweb/Page/CFSCtplStandard?WT.svl=nav3

"If we make a mistake in any of the areas covered by our guarantees, we promise to say sorry, put the problem right and pay you £15 for your trouble

Cheque books and cards - We promise we will automatically issue your cheque book and cards to make sure you always have them available"

COOP Bank failed to automatically renew one of my cards in the past , they claim to operate a "probationary period" and when this date arrives the card is not renewed automatically

I don't know the reasons (if any) , but I have banked there since leaving school , it may be the case that they object to customers cancelling direct debits on the date they are due to be debited

I didn't complain as I have skeletons in the closet , that is the problem with opening an account at 18 , the bank has a record of everything I have done since 18 and reviewing my data protection records is cringeworthy - so no £15 for me
