A computer glitch saw the new Apple iPad go up for sale for £49.99 on Tesco's website.

The device is not due for launch until 17 March, and will in fact be priced at £559 for the 4G 64GB model.

A spokesman for Tesco said: "We like to offer our customers unbeatable value, but unfortunately this is an IT error that is currently being corrected."

He added that no money would be withdrawn from customers who had placed orders.

The firm could not provide a figure for how many people had attempted to buy the device at the discounted price.

News of the "offer" spread rapidly over Twitter and Facebook. However, many rightly predicted the deal was too good to be true.

Tesco Direct's terms and conditions state: "If, by mistake, we have under priced an item, we will not be liable to supply that item to you at the stated price, provided that we notify you before we despatch the item to you. In those circumstances, we will notify the correct price to you so you can decide whether or not you wish to order the item at that price."

did you post just to get thanks?

Yes, whats wrong with that? If you do something for omeone wouldnt you like to be thanked, i always do.
And is there a limit on thanks? Seems if youve thanked one similar thread, you cant thank another. Is everyone really that busy?

You might have got more thanks if this had been an original post. MSE guy first posted about the price drop a day before you and uzubairu posted details of the £10 voucher in that thread before you did.

I didnt realize it was already posted, as it must of already had slipped of the listings. Sorry for alerting people.and wasting valuable space on the internet.

The Ipad2 I ordered is ready to collect from store now, though it's for the wifes birthday in early may.

I bought her a refurb Ipad 1 last year from the apple store for £289, as I couldn't afford the extra for an Ipad2 back then.

But this year, the Ipad2 will be a nice upgrade for her, and I don't think the differences between the 2 and the '3' are enough to warrant buying that one, for the extra £70/80.

I had worried last year about which one to get, but she still hasn't filled the 16GB yet, and that includes apps and music, so this one at Tesco is fine for her.

Think our son is going to try and claim her Ipad1 when she gets her new one though!

Cheers again to the OP, as I hadn't seen the other threads, and it was very timely with the £10 off voucher due to expire.

I can't see on the clubcard website how to use my points towards one, is it something you can only do quarterly
    Thanks

You need to wait until you get your clubcard mailing with the vouchers in it, then you can either take the vouchers instore if your store sells the item you want, or you can use the code on them to spend them online. As I said though, you can't just use the points on their own, they need to be converted into vouchers which usually only happens four times a year. The next mailing is due in early May as far as I know.
