I love Switzerland, we've been several times. We usually stay self catering, in the summer you can rent out chalets dirt cheap, but It's probably a bit early at easter for that.

TBH, there's so much to see and do there it would make for a very hectic short trip if you're going to make it worthwhile.

Is there anywhere else your family wouldn't need a visa for? How about Scotland?

Switzerland is very expensive especially for food.

Most folk in the cities from the checkout girl to ... speak English.

A beer in my son's local costs 9.50 Swiss francs that's equivalent to over £6.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!

Actually v havent yet got british passports so cant go anywhere, where we need a visa...n for switzerland u dont need a visa thats y we were thinking of going there...

Sadly, this information is out of date. Switzerland has joined the Schengen zone and so unfortunately now requires visas from people in your situation.

Austria has a good reputation for issuing visas rapidly by post to people in your situation.

I really liked Northern Ireland. Costs are lower than other places I have been; (London)Derry is both interesting and beautiful; the Giant's Causeway is a good place to spend a day walking...

I liked NI too, but was unprepared for the non-stop rain (this was in the middle of summer!). Prices are similar to the mainland and a lot cheaper than Dublin. To make the best of it you would need to hire a car as the public transport system in NI is not that well developed.

I think North Wales would be a good bet for Easter, it's incredibly beautiful and there's loads to do if you're mobile. Again prepare for rain!

Switzerland is horribly expensive. We were there last year and spent £120-140 a night on our evening meal with wine. A gin and tonic was £12.50. We thought we'd save money and went to a pizzeria one night, only to find that it was going to cost £70-90 for basic pizzas and beer.

To be frank, it would be a nightmare with children.
