Buying petrol with a credit/debit card.

Alot of garage forecourts wont allow you to pay with a scratchcard either.
THey should have provisions for people who want to pay by anymeans. I can understand their point of view if you wanted to pay with a furry hamster though.0 -
This happened to me also the other day. I was at Sainsburys buying some bits & pieces at lunchtime. Luckily, it was only £5 and not a massive shop, but my credit card was declined. Couldn't understand it as it had £'000's of credit on it.
Anyway had to pay with debit card. Rushed back to work where I sat on hold to the CC company. She could see the transaction and they had authorised it, but apparently Mastercard/Sainsburys decided to decline even though M&S CC had approved it. Weird. She said it was a known problem they are trying to fix.
Felt very stupid in the shop, although the assistant was very polite. But this was their mistake, yet you're the one to feel like a fool.
Since then, my card has been fine!

Hmm, a skimmed card is a skimmed card, credit or debit. If it is a big company, they would have to be liable for their dodgy employee surely?
I just think you can go overboard with not doing this and not doing that, I don't carry cash purely and simply because the only time I ever had my bag stolen I lost about £50 in cash which no-one under the sun was going to replace.
You could say "Never ever, ever, EVER carry cash because if you lose your bag/purse/wallet, no-one will recompense you for it"
I'd rather have the comeback of being able to report my cards missing.
The only time I ever ended up without the means to pay for petrol, I thankfully hadn't Filled up. It got to £3-00 and I suddenly realised I didn't have my purse! I went straight in and explained to the really sullen, rude assistant who more or less said "I don't believe you". He didn't know what to do so I offered to leave my name address and mobile number (even getting him to call it so he knew it was a real number!). when I went back after work, he said to me he didn't hink I would come back because people generally don't!! :eek:Good Enough Club member number 27(2) AND I got me a stalkee!
