    66 x 54inch
66 inch is the width and 54 inch is the drop

Drops usually for ready made curtains are.....
    54" 72" and 90"

    Widths are usually 46" 66" and 90"

Allow for the drop to be from the curtain pole when you measure
For the width , each curtain will be 66" , so allow for around at least a width and half any less doesn't look as nice.........if your window measure 5 ft wide, then you need a curtain that will have nice folds in it when they are closed....so allowing for a few inches over the wall , you would prob want a curtain of 66" wide....half the window is 2ft 5"....and the curtain is 5ft 6" so that's plenty. If your window measure 6ft wide then half is 3ft, add on around 3/4 inches to go over the wall at the side and that would be fine too......it also depends on whether your curtains will overlap in the centre of meet like they do on a pole

    take a look here

Just check the sizes on a curtain retailer site like Dunelm Mill....click on any of their ready made curtain and all the sizes will be shown..

Thank you so much Bully your a star.the window is 4ft wide and a 54 drop would be great. We think with those measurements in mind 66 would be ok for the width, do you think so?

My dining room window is 4ft wide and the curtains in there are a width and half which is 72"( the fabric is 48" wide )....so 66" is only 6 " less than that but mine are very full when closed....they were originally on track that overlapped but they are now on a pole....if you have overlapping tracking then I would get 72" , if it is a pole then 66" will be fine....

Just double check the drop, make sure you measure down from where the track or pole is....nothing worse than curtains that are too short.....once again if it is a pole then the length will be from under the pole, if it is a track then they will be slightly above it( to hide the track)

Am assuming you are hanging curtains on a window that is inset ( with a ledge) not a window that is flush with the wall.....meaning you have a window ledge about 4/5 inches deep.
