Morning all, just popped on to post that we had enjoyed our break away in Cornwall, but got a phone call at tea time yesterday to say dad feeling poorly again, so we had decided to come home today, then got another call within an hour to say he had passed away.

Just can't believe my lovely dad is no longer with us and I can't even say goodbye to him as the coroner needs to be informed and that won't happen till Monday so the earliest I can see him is Tuesday. Now don't know whether or not I want to see him then as don't know what he will look like after a few days. I would definitely have gone to see him when we got home but now not so sure.

    ShopandDrop,

I am so so sorry for the loss of your dad. I am really sorry you never got to see him to say goodbye but he will know that you were always with him in his heart.
It is so very hard no matter if it is expected or suddenly. My advice would be to see your dad, yes it will be hard, but you will get peace from seeing him, you can talk to him and spend time alone with him. You will regret it later down the line if you don't see him.
I am sending you the biggest virtual hug and if you need someone to talk to you can pm me,

Please take care of yourself and accept all offers of help xxx

Just caught up with posts and sorry to hear of your loss SnD, very sad time for you, and what a lovely post from MAG. I'm sure the sentiments of all the other posters will bring some comfort to you both....you peeps on here are so very special.

Safe journey home for AH ....missed you Blue? Thought you were coming to see me?
Have to say the staff were extrememly helpful when I could not find things, not like T's at all.....

:mad::mad:You told me you were busy fishing/galavanting on a comps win/partying or something so I didn't ring you :(:( I was prob a few mins away as well cos I went and checked out your Asda's and Tesco. I got well trouted in one of your Asda's, (partly my fault as wanted APG amount putting on a gift card, but did get other shopping as well:D). Your Tesco were fine though, no probs accepting a RTD voucher. Oh well I have 2 more trips planned/travelodges booked for October.:j:j
Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

We went Tuesday night till Friday (came home early friday cos OH had two jobs to do urgently:(:(

I'll def visit in October. We stopped in Derby on the way there and couldn't believe how lovely the town was. For some reason I thought Derby was a crappy town, but it is a bit like York with all the little shops and lovely buildings. Stopping in Derby was thanks to Aesop letting me know where the nearest Weatherspoons was on my travels:beer:
We loved Alton Towers and the Gardens, it is so well looked after and the staff are so friendly (except one). I just have to write a complaint about one of the staff who seemed to have been a Tesco employee with her attitude:eek::eek: We had some chip and they were cold, but I was told I was a liar and they had just come out of the fryer, which was a blatant lie, plus they were obviously old/scabby. It was only cos I wouldn't budge that she got me some fresh ones.

The area around Alton Towers is lovely, me and OH have both said how beautiful this country is and how we need to see more of it. It's just a shame we cannot guarantee at least a week of decent weather in summer months.
Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

    Got to be pepsi cola...lol

    Dear Snowdrop

I agree with Aesop about going to see your Dad. Thrown into a nightmare and having no experience of seeing someone who had left this world I was reticent, hell - scared to say the least about seeing Chloe, but from the moment I was alone in that room with her I felt such serenity. I spend every moment possible with her during the days before she was laid to rest. I used the opportunity to tell her all I wished I had a chance to say before, read her favourite childhood stories, stroked her hair and her flawless skin and kissed her coldness. Of course, there were tears, a tsunami of them, they fell, in slow motion and got mixed in with my words but I am so thankful that I did for you never ever get another chance. My only regret is not keeping for myself a lock of her hair, I so wish I had, it might be something you would like to do.

I appreciate its not for everybody and I may myself feel different when its my parents' time but I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever.

Be guided by your heart and trust its decision. Thinking of you at this so difficult timex

So so sorry for your loss.

Awe what a lovely post, brought a tear to my eye!

This brought back memories of my mother, I was there aswel as much as I could. I felt this would be the last time that I could touch and talk to her. Even after 12 yrs I still feel my heart breaking when I talk about her, so I am so glad I spent the last days with her before she left me for good.

I was advised not to see my mother as she was not looking good but i told them to put make-up on her so as people at least had the choice. It didn't matter to myself how she looked as she was my mother.

SnD I agree with everyone, don't have a regret over this in the future.

Thanks for all your posts. Think I am concerned that as it will be a few days after his death that he won't look like dad! He was always a very smart man, so we have decided to ask if he can be dressed in a suit, complete with shirt and tie and that is how he always was. Don't know if they will do this for us or not?

Yes he will look different, but he will look at peace and as if he is asleep. Just to warn you he will be very cold to touch too. The worry of seeing him for the first time will be worse than actually seeing him SND. But you will get peace from seeing & talking to him.

You can dress your dad how you choose, the funeral directors will be very accommodating.

Have been thinking of you all morning xx

My dad was always smart and we had him dressed in his favourite/best suite, shirt/tie etc. My dad looked like he always did, well not always as he never slept in his suit;) and he looked like he was sleeping. The only thing I found was he was a bit cool to touch, but not ice cold or anything.

How is your mum coping? Are you an only child/have you everything to sort out? I hope your managing ok.

I was thinking that too, have you any other siblings? I hope your mum is okay too.

Did your dad manage to speak about his wishes to your mum or yourself?
