Ok so i bought an iphone 4s on ebay locked on three, and im on t-mobile whats the best way to get it unlock to work on t-mobile.

Ive contacted the seller but hes being annoying about it and three said they need him to do it?.

Also is it true that T-Mobile charge £10 for a micro sim, I was shocked about that I've been with them for 7 years and had the same sim card and they cant give me a micro one for free!

Also if I jailbreak it would it become unlocked and if you jailbreak it and something goes wrong and you reset the software to the newest version not jail broken would the warranty still be valid or once jail broken that's it your screwed warranty wise?

Thanks in advance Ive been searching but getting so many different answers just wanted someone to tell me please..

Have you considered porting your number from T-mobile to 3?

It would save you unlocking the phone - which does void your warranty, click here

I can't answer your first question with regards to 3 saying that the original owner needs to be the one who unlocks it, sorry.

whats the sellers problem all he needs to do is phone up and authorise it

but porting might be a better idea unless the signal isnt good in your area

Yeah Tmobile do charge for a new sim, unless you take out a contract for a IPHONE 4 or 4s with them, that needs a micro sim then they give you one.

Even if you are not happy with 3 port your number on a monthly sim only, get it unlocked and port the number out.
Or you can get the PAYG sim on 3 and get it unlocked

Hi guys thanks for your replies they guy on eBay is being weird his like its to much fuss to do it, and 3 are saying only he can unlock it?

I have a really good sim only deal on t-mobile that's why I want to stay on them and I think even if I changed my number to 3, it still wouldn't work as there asking for the original owner to do it.

What can I do I don't want to jail break it as it will loose warranty.

What do you expect if he made it clear that the phone was locked to '3' when selling? Locked phones normally cost less than unlocked. And '3' can charge him about £15 for unlocking.
and 3 are saying only he can unlock it?
Yes, they are right. Only the owner can do this. For them you are nobody.

I am not sure that this is the case, but if it is you can only either jailbreak the phone or keep begging the original owner.

Don't listen to the doom mongers...its perfectly legal to jailbreak your iphone and get the software unlock applied. However Apple may refuse to carry out warranty repairs if you leave your phone jailbreaked so its better to do a software restore (same as factory settings) if you ever have to send your phone to Apple and Apple will never know you've jailbreaked.

However instead of faffing around with software unlocks, i recommend getting it permanently unlocked...your iphone's IMEI # will be added to Apple's whitelist database. This company are doing it (perfectly legit, i've used them before) and while they do charge £74.99 to get a 3 handset unlocked, they refund 50% back onto your card if you leave a video review so £37.50 isn't too bad.

If the Ebay seller is already being arsey about getting the phone unlocked, (I'm assuming that you've recently bought it?) just be careful that they don't put an insurance claim in for the phone being lost just after your 45(?) day claim period is up with PayPal...otherwise having the phone unlocked will be the least of your worries and you'll end up with an expensive paperweight.
