I'm with you on the marigolds - all the cheaper ones I've tried seem to spring a leak fairly quickly.
Loo roll I get what ever branded is on offer at the time - it does seem to work out at better value over time that the wilko cheapy I used to get.
The only other thing I can think of where I always get the branded version is heinz tomato sauce.

We don't use a lot of ketchup, but after years of branded i worked us down to the value one, Its not as good, but its a tolerable compromise for us as occasional ketchup users. I think thats probably a missed point, for different people different things work out well or not.

E.g. Mayo. I often make our mayo as we have eggs about, but i am convinced it works out more expensove (if a lot better) with the cost of the oil i use, but like bought for a back up and some things as a preference. I buy branded there, because i found supermarket own did not last as long in the fridge..unlike branded which might last through a nuclear explosion if its longevity and resistance in my fridge is any example!

    Thanks all,

No I'm not eating feathers or steel, just for the record :D

I will certainly try the Aldi washing up liquid as its likely to be cheaper than Fairy, not that I necessarily want cheaper, just not false economy either.

Just going back to the cereal, the ingredients lists Jumbo Raisens and Saltarnas, so I wonder if these things make it "seems more" substantial. I don't eat it btw, but OH just has a bowl full of whatever I buy and this box really does seem to have lasted along time. He has had the same amount for the same length of time IYSWIM.

I only buy An**ex but that's because it's the only loo roll that doesn't block our drain in to the sewer.

And its the one I never buy as it doesn't ever flush away first time in our loos. :)
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.

  • Toilet paper amazes me, we buy different brands depending on what is on offer, my OH bought velvet on offer, and as soon as I had the roll in my hands before knowing it was a different one, I knew it was a better quality. We need half as much so works out much cheaper.
The cheap Tesco stuff lasts 5 minutes, even Waitrose's own brand was a bit rough we when used it last.

Lidl is the only brand that can be as good as branded stuff, in general, although not everything is, but worth a try.

Sigh. We buy whatever's on offer and are currently using Velv3t. Sadly, even though it's clearly much thicker and absorbent OH is insistent on using the same amount as usual- therefore we rattle through rolls at a rate of knots as there are fewer sheets per roll.
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.
