Sill remember my unfortunate dealings with countrywide last year. Resulted in me missing then deadline for the reintroduction of stamp duty and therefore an extra £1600 to pay out on top of their fees for slowing everything down by querying irrelevant points, asking for unnecessary searches and claiming not to have received paperwork that had been sent to them.
I was forewarned and tried not to use them but still they were involved in the process to check my solicitors work, happily things have improved since then with HSBC widening the amount of solicitors who can do conveyancing without involving Countrywide. I would definitely never use them and be reluctant to accept an offer from someone who was.0 -
Great, our buyers are using these! God knows why when they aren't needing a mortgage!0

We're not but they are. We've got a local solicitor. We used him last year when I sold my house ( we're now selling my partners house). We completed in 6 weeks so hoping he can help push them!0

Having gone through the nightmare of our solicitors failing us, and getting a new one (sent from heaven I might add) who did everything at breakneck speed as we were threatened with a deadline...now the entire chain is ready and has been ready to exchange since last week...it is the top of the chain who are now holding everything up...just found out they are with Countrywide...the pain continues. I feel a heart attack coming on.0

Our mortgage is from HSBC but we've never been asked to use CC.0

This thread started in March 2012, when HSBC reduced its solicitor panel to 43 with Countrywide as panel manager. Often, you had no choice and got Countrywide by default.
This changed after HSBC was slaughtered by the press, solicitors and borrowers. You can now use any CQS accredited firm, unless you are borrowing above a certain amount, then HSBC has Countrywide act for it, at your expense (£160 + VAT) while your solicitor represents you.I am a mortgage broker.
