Countrywide Conveyancing/HSBC - avoid like the plague if you want to complete

Obviously if you can find a reasonably good firm that is on the panel it is better to go with them.
Need to ask CW to refer my file to the solicitor that I've chosen. I have an appointment with HSBC on saturday and will give them the solicitor's details. CW said it should not be an issue and they will be happy to do the referral. Cross fingers it works - will post back on monday to advise progress.0 -
I'm meant to be completing tomorrow so hopefully this nightmare will end. It's lasted 4 months up till now, and we still don't know if we'll be moving tomorrow as we are exchanging on completion (because we don't trust countrywide to send the money on time)
I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone - it seems that you have no control of the situation, no matter how many times you complain. Countrywide work at their own pace, so if you have the misfortune to be landed with them, adjust your expectations accordingly.
I have an email from late February where I was communicating with the vendor saying how we might be able to complete before March...0 -
We had a letter from the solicitor in january saying hopefully it will be completed in 3 weeks. We are still waiting.0

So taking that into account, went back to my estate agent and told them that I will go with HSBC solicitor and they threthen me that they will put the property back on the market.
That is disgusting. After your sale goes through, you need to complain to the regulating bodies that this estate agent is a member of about their behaviour.0 -

Surely that's a decision for the vendor not the EA?
I would report the EA if they are in fact the obstructive party.
One would imagine desperate to earn commission in times of very low property transactions.0 -

I've heard of tactics similar to that before - the estate agent telling little fibs to try to get you to keep the sale going through...
"The vendor is going to pull out if you don't do XYZ etc..."
"The buyers further down the chain are getting impatient and are going to cancel if you don't do XYZ..."
It's a very underhand tactic but surely they wouldn't call your bluff?!I'm a seagull, I'm a seagull, I'm a long way from home0 -
Re: timmyt's post
Well well, if I have to choose between my EA solicitor and the HSBC one, I will go for the HSBC one as at least I get to choose which firm to go with. Other banks also have a panel of solicitors and us customers have got no say at all in this but have to dance to their music unfortunately.
I am taking a gamble and happy to do so.
If I appoint my EA solicitor, their legal fee is £620 + vat and £340+vat is referral fee. CW referral fee is much lower than and not even in the hundred.
What do you mean problems after moving in or errors?

Congratulations for being more intelligent than me. Well done full marks to you.0 -
Hi all
After we completed we complained about the totally unacceptable way CC handled our case and received £198 back from our fees from HSBC.
It's a bit of a slog to do but it's worth doing.
All the best

Hi All,
I've just seen this thread regarding HSBC and CC.
I'm in the same boat with this. My solicitor has been chasing CC for the last 4 weeks in order to complete my 1st house purchase and we are not getting anywhere with them.
I have phoned HSBC regarding this who advise they will escalate this with CC, however they are unable to keep me in the loop which gives me no faith in knowing this is moving forward.
I even contacted CC today directly who advised me that they were unable to discuss my own property purchase with me. Which is find a bit silly.
Does anyone have any advise how I can speed things up?
Thank you.0 -
Hi all,
I appreciate majority of you have had problems with HSBC but I wanted to say thanks for posting about them.
I have banked with them my whole life and I am in the process of getting a mortgage sorted. I will not be using HSBC from reading this thread even if they are the cheapest.
Thanks0
