hi
just wanted advice from members about which car steering lock to buy for my nissan sunny, which has no immobiliser or nothing!.
I was looking at this one from index:
http://www.index.co.uk/rf/navigation/product.do?SN=&Nao=13&versionid=1182&categoryid=242222857&upsell=Y&thisprod=96480966&product=96480966&D=248319666&row=3&col=4&displaybanner=false
its a good price, there was also this argos one:
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=3151&productId=123225&Trail=C%24cip%3D21509.DIY%2C%2Bgarden%2Band%2Bpets%3EC%24cip%3D21545.Car%2Bequipment%3EC%24cip%3D21552.Car%2Bsecurity%2Band%2Bsafety&categoryId=21552&clickfrom=name
But the index one seems to look more secure, i mean the steering doenst have much movement with that fitted, I'm just hoping its not easy to break or bypass.
I'm going to buy the index one in about 1 hour so any replies before that would be cool
Any help appreciated !
Thanks

Probably too late, but after we had our car nicked the police told me that they had never known one stolen with one of those big round ones which goes all over the steering wheel fitted. That's a few years ago, mind.Signature removed for peace of mind0

I'm not keen on steering wheel locks, they take up storage space and can be dangerous in an accident - especially if not in the boot.
I drive automatic cars, due to a disability, and most of these now lock the gear lever when you turn of the ignition. I have seen devices that can be fitted to the gear levers of other cars. They require a specialist fitter as they have to be fitted underneath the car.
I think to lock them you have to press a push button and then lock the push button with a key. They are totally unobtrusive and permanantly fitted in place. The only non-fixed item is the key!0 -
Thanks sue, yeah but the thing is they are like £75 !.
I'm hoping no one would make the effort to steal a 1994 nissan sunny with this lock, it does look pretty decent (yes i brought one earlier).
And thanks for advice paul, but again I didnt want to spend much, just wanted cheap + effective!, but looks like you do have to spend a few if you want to be really safe.
but i'm hoping this will be adaquate.0 -
Can't see the link for the first steering lock, but I would not waste your time with the elephant lock. It will withstand attack for about 1second. The best locks are the all over type. click here
Single bar locks can be removed by simpley cutting the steering wheel with bolt croppers
Always remember that you car also has a steering lock via the key mechanism. It will not deter crooks from smashing into your car in the first place, but may delay them for a little while (about 2 second for a seasoned car thief and two mins for a opportunity thief)0 -
More and more police stations and Local Authorities are offering thatcham approved locks at discounted prices to help combat crime, we bought one similar to the one below 2 yrs ago for £15 when the scheme was being trialled but it is now more widely available, so worth checkingI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. They are in Halfords , but I bought one in Costco recently for about half that price0 -
Another place to get them is your local Police Aution. They some time have them from recovered vehicles, but as with all autions you have to be there at the right time and place.0

That is a great price!, I cannot find them anywhere below £50 though, anyone know where I can get one from (cheaply).
the lock i brought did mention that it cant be easily removed even if cut up to 3 times, but i'm not convinced.
i think this is the best price for that style:

not sure if it is as effective as the more expensive ones though.0 -
are we talking a standard nissan sunny or one of those modified japanese imports?
for a standard one, one of those like you have bought would be adequate i bet- i used to drive a 1993 citroen ax and had a ten quid steering lock from argos (they still sell them) because my alarm played up and went off randomly when set.
i gave it away with the car (they paid full asking price).
it is worth getting one of the expensive ones if you have a modified car (like those import sunny gt things) 'cos you sometimes get an insurance discount.
on a basic sunny though, probably not worth bothering with any more than you got.
it's a visual deterrent, to warn off the amateur/oppurtunist.
if a pro wants your car, they will have itthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok
I trust BH even if he's from Manchester..

yep its a plain nissan sunny inspiration, no modifications at all, not even alloys, it is a very clean car however, my first car and love it0
