I often find the search facilities on Bulletin Boards cumbersome and inefficient, requiring a learning curve. MSE is no exception! As a challenge, if looking for a thread, type the name of the poster, 'moneysavingexpert' and a few key words into Google, and see if you can find it any faster. I had a hit first time at the top of the list when I did it. Perhaps Googling raises the status of MSE as well!
