Outlook 2003 is fine but it cannot delete Gmail emails (IMAP), or I cannot work out how to do it.

    I can't believe no-one has yet suggested Outlook.... so I will ;)

I use (on various machines & e-mail accounts) Outlook, Outlook Express, and Thunderbird, steer clear of windows mail ( no need for an e-mail account on my vista and W7 machines), and to be totally honest, Outlook is the best of them by a long way, as long as you stick with 2003 and not the later versions. Thunderbird is a PITA loading, it takes forever, and just isn't as good all-round as Outlook (IMHO, of course).

We have outlook at work and I like it.

Of course Win 7 comes with Windows mail 2011, which seems to have major issues with errors. Always telling me it cannot do something, But looking at Thunderbird, I don't think it is any better
    PITA?
Where could you find Outlook these days?

    Pain In The Ar** ;)

Outlook, as always, is part of the Office suite along with Word, Excel, etc. Have a look on ebay for a copy of 2003, or if you have a version of Office already, Outlook will be lurking on your machine already :)

The main competition to Thunderbird are Microsoft's two email clients, Windows Live Mail and Microsoft Outlook. If you use Exchange, you'll probably need one of these. Windows Live Mail is actually a pretty good client, and has a lot of the same features as Thunderbird, like conversation views, as well as some nice Windows integration. It doesn't have the awesome add-on support that Thunderbird does, however. Outlook is a very full-featured email and calendar client that is pretty powerful, and useful for organizing a lot more than email. It does, however, come with a hefty price tag.

The new Windows Live Mail that comes with Win7, and is free via download for XP, is pretty good. Vastly better for multiple email accounts than say, Outlok Express or even Outlook 2003 for example. It is particularly quick to set up those multiple accounts, no Rule setups needed, then keeps them in separate folders with their own in-boxes, sent folders etc.

I have tried Thunderbird a while back, not as good IMHO as Live Mail.
