A couple of things to try.
Uninstall IE9. See if problems persist with a previous version, re-install IE9.
Roll back to this restore point here: RP35: 06/03/2012 10:28:55 - Windows Update.
Ensure you have the latest flash version. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Help, really stuck now, did the system restore. It now wont do anything, although windows does load, I cant click on anything - avast is back on as is IE9. Firefox is missing as I installed that later, I am a bit paniced as I cant open my emails which are for work.Always on the hunt for a bargain0

Did you update flash player? I'm wondering if the problem is only on pages that have flash content seeing as the problem only appears to affect some webpages?
Other than that, I'm not sure what else to suggest.
As an aside, I'd install the free version of Malwarebytes & run the odd quick scan - you never know when you might need it.
