Do you know what would be simple? Checking the date on the certificate...

Hindsight is a wonderful thing ! now why did i not think of that ?
It's not really a big deal if it expires FPN or a court appearance with a minimal fine thats assuming you get pulled.

or your motor off to the pound ! what`s that 100 quid Plus ?

I don't agree there should be reminders as that will cost us all a lot of money to administer, people should be responsible themselves by putting a reminder somewhere they will see it.
They send you one for your road tax so why not enclose a reminder of MOT due date ?
They check all the info sent when you apply online , insurance , tax etc ............... ?

You can't have your car seized for no MOT

Because by your method, my MOT would be reminded to me 2 months after I had taken my MOT which is a bit pointless really.

I believe ANPR doesn't check for MOTs anyway - possibly because it would flag up too many cars. I think they check for road tax, which means they get to seize the car and get more money - plus if it's not taxed it's less likely to be MOTed and insured anyway.

You are only likely to get caught for no MOT if they stop you for something else, like speeding, and check it then.

I don't think ANPR is as wide spread as they make out to be. I'm saying this as there is a car that often visits a neighbour with an expired tax disc of June 2011 in the windscreen. On further checks it is also showing an uninsured on the Askmid site.

I found the stickers really useful. Unfortunatley, as the new certs are printed on plain paper, we won't get them any more.

In fact, I can see there being a major increase in forged MOT's with the changes they've made.

I must admit i dont think much of the new MOT paperwork !
Single a4 sheet printed out from a pc , no embossed stamp and i think a lot of forgeries will be forthcoming !

A forged MOT certificate is useless these days though surely?

I drove for about 6 months (or more) without insurance, and I renewed my road tax with the validly dated but invalid insurance certificate during that time.

I have to own up, I have almost never driven without insurance (two weeks ago to drive 1 mile to the scrap yard to get rid of MOT failure car), but I did drive for a number of months without an MOT a number of years ago, and a few weeks ago I did take the in date tax disk out of the old MOT failure car and put it in the the new taxless car for two days until I could get to a post office.

I felt terribly guilty to know that for two days I was one of these awful drivers that you read about.

You do realise that having a tax disc in the window makes you no less likely to get caught these days?
