Contract Problems with orange/NER Direct

My girlfriend has a problem with her contract for an orange phone.
The contract was arranged over the telephone with a company called NER direct (she didn’t know this at the time thought it was orange) and she has received no paper work from them only her monthly orange phone bill. This January was the end of her contract (1 year) so she called orange to cancel her contract. They would not cancel it as they said it was for two years. Orange is taking no responsibility for the contract saying it is NER direct's responsibility.
She has spoken to NER direct on several occasions and has sent them a letter. They claim the contract is for two years but will not produce any evidence of this, i.e the voice recording, even though members of staff there say they have listened to it
Has anybody had the same problem or any advice on what can be done. Cheers  .
