HTC Sensation XE - problems adding POP3/IMAP email account (AoL)

Hi,
Help please?
I've been a (loyal) Vodafone customer for many years and recently upgraded my previous (Vodafone-sourced) HTC Desire to a new (Carphone Warehouse-sourced) HTC Sensation XE. The XE isn't stocked in Vodafone stores or online - I very much wanted one however, and so on the advice of my Vodafone store, I approached CW and got the XE from them, using my existing Vodafone sim card.
I had until recently no problems receiving email (AOL email account user), but have never been able to send emails from the XE. To resolve this, I removed/deleted my AOL account, and ever since I've not been able to add or re-install it. Every time I attempt this, I get the following warning message: "Authentication Failed. Please verify your username/password".
I've followed the XE User Guide closely and done substantial research on the web. I've even re-installed my sim card in my previous Desire and copied the IMAP mail settings across to the XE - no joy. The problem seems to be a common one judging by the number of internet amd forum posts I've seen.
Just to confirm the problem exists whether I'm using wi-fi at home or at work, AND when using the Vodafone mobile network (3G).
Before I take the phone back to either Vodafone (but will they look at it as they don't supply the model???) or CW, is there anyone out there who might know how to fix this?
The setting I've used are as follows:
Incoming:
Protocol = IMAP
email address = (as per laptop/PC)
username = ditto above
Password = (as per laptop/PC)
IMAP server = imap.aol.com
Security type = none
Server poiint = 143
Outgoing:
Log-in reqq'd = ticked
username = as per Incoming
Password = as per Incoming
SMTP server: smtp.aol.com
Security type = none
Server point = 587
Any ideas please? I'm finding this all very frustrating....!!!
Many thanks,
Andy

A) You do realise that HTC are launching their new phones very very soon.
Its common with alot of HTC phones at the moment as your research has led you to understand.
Dont Voda have other settings you could use??
C) Youll have to take the phone to CPW. A;though you can ring Voda to help you diagnose the settings. I seriously forgot what other settings you can use but there are alternatives to help.0 -
On the outgoing server have you tried changing the
security type to :SSL/TLS?
otherwise
download another email program, K-9 Mail is recommended
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsck.k9&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5mc2NrLms5Il0.
And try it with that, with your original settings you posted0
