Injector blown from head.

As the title says really.
Our Voyager CRD managed to blow an injector out the head tonight and I was wondering if anyone had any idea of what may have caused it?
I'd changed the seal recently, is it possible that it wasnt seated quite right and the pressure involved in a common rail managed to blow it out?
I've ordered a helicoil set, adequate to fix it assuming it WAS a poorly seated injector?

as long as bits of thread and the whole injector came out not half of it then i would assume you could get away with it.
as for cause blowing an injector out? if it wasnt seated properly compression could have blown it out.
why dont you try a thread chaser rather than put a helicoil in it?0 -
Never heard of a thread chaser to be honest, had only recently had helicoils recommended.0

thread chaser can be handy if you strip a few threads on a bolt or in a bolt liner, it cuts the groove back in to the bolt liner so the bolt can re seat properly or the cross thread on the bolt can be shaved away and new grooved made. saved me time in placing in a helicoil because sometime you just cant get the threads to match and have to use a smaller bolt.
use a tap set for the hole in the head of the same size and thread type, and just gently screw in (blocking up the hole so no shavings can get in the head), then with a thread chase re thread the end screw on the injector to re thread them, they should match back up and tighten,
if not, your going to have to cut a well in the threads with a tap place a helicoil in there and HOPE the size matches.0 -
chasing a damaged thread may leave you with a weak thread. If you have the coils in hand, i'd use those.
edit.
im assuming here, you should have an oversize drill, helicoil tap and inserts. and know a little about what your doing. otherwise i'd follow the chasing route first. 2 stabs at the same problem might be to your advantage if your not confident with helicoils.
I use them regularly, hence im very pro-coil.0 -

what do first is that i chase the bolt, (i dont bother with weak alu bolts)the i match the thread of the bolt to the helicoil tap and over all size so they replicate eachother, then i gently screw the tap into the hole the bolt is going in until i hit a hard spot, applying a bit of force just rethread the bolt liner so the bolt doesnt thread or jump a thread and cross them. if that fails, then i tap a well in the hole, insert a liner then proceed with helicoil after i matched up the thread type and size and depth needed to go down.0 -
It's a complete helicoil set I've ordered, I'll possibly have a look for a thread chaser locally to have a go at that first.0

I think a little bit of misunderstanding crept in to this good advice. If you order a helicoil set and not an insert, you will in effect get a thread chaser with it, albeit a slightly larger size to bite into the host metal to take the insert. You'll see what I mean when you get the kit.0

Seen it in daylight, threads seem to be ok, the heads actually sheared off the bolt.
So it'll be stud extractor and new bolts all round I think.0 -

the injector retention bold snapped in the head, thats some force to cause that!!! or could you have possibly over tightened it when replacing the seals, and vibration heat expansion did the rest of the job of snapping it?0 -
i want to see the dent in the bonnet:D0
