in Credit cards
Hi, previously I came on to the forum to mention an unauthorised transaction on my credit card that occurred in a local store. I had visited the store on the day but made a transaction using a different credit card that is held on the same account. When my statement arrived I did not recognise 2 transactions that occurred in the same store on the same day. After further examination I found that they occurred on a different card (but the same account) which i never use. The cc company has sent me the sales receipt and the signatures do not resemble my own. In fact they both differ from each other on the separate bills. I've written a letter to the cc company disputing the transactions. I'm just wondering what happens next? Also how this could have occurred on a different card held on my account? Any informed advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your credit card company should suspend and investigate any transaction you challenge as unauthorised, and, if the transaction was not authorised by you, they should refund it and return your account to the position it would have been in (e.g., by refunding any interest or charges that you have paid as a result).0

How come your local store does not have chip/pin. Why are the sales receipts signed?
How do you have 2 cards on one account? Is it a Mastercard and an Amex card or something like that?
The only way in which the other two transactions could have been made using the second card is if it somehow came into posession of somebody in the store who then either swiped it twice when you were not looking or copied all the details and keyed the info in later. The transaction receipts should show the time of the transaction. Do they correspond with the time that you were in the store?0 -
The 2 fraudulent transactions took place between an hour and two hours apart. After I had left the store. It was on the second card on my account. When the statement arrived I decided to return to the store to see if what I had bought truly corresponded with my 'genuine' transaction. As I waited in the queue I heard the cashier say to the lady in front that they are always having trouble with the card terminals. I 'think' what must have happened is that somehow they swiped my details and then used my second card on the account. What was strange is that the first transaction 'they' made was exceedingly small. Whereas the second was a much larger amount....The card they used was not with me at the time. I keep it in a safe place as it is never used.0

Yes, but HOW did they get the details of the second card? How can they have swiped a card that was not with you at the time and is kept in a safe place as you never use it?
And why do this shop not use chip/pin?
A more likely explanation would be if somebody who knew where the second card is kept took it and used it (somehow; surprised though that no better check of the signature was made in this non chip/pin store) without your knowledge.0 -
Appreciate what you are saying.No-one else had access to my second card (I know this for sure). Another strange detail is that when i received a copy of the fraudulent transactions the cc had a different expiry date than the genuine article. The store in question also swipes cards (apart from chip and pin). Guess its just a case of waiting and seeing what the cc company says. But believe me its taught me the benefits of paying in cash (if poss) rather than with plastic!!!0

Firstly if you are asked to sign when there is a chip and pin terminal in the shop the liability automatically goes back to the shop - it will be in the shop's T&C with their merchant card issuer.0 -
Just an update incase it helps anyone in a similar situation. The cc company replied to me. They have reimbursed me but want me to sign a further form so they can further their investigation. The only frustration is that after being scammed they say they won't reveal the outcome of their investigation. Never mind at least I don't have to pay...0

I would wait a reasonable time to let them investigate then send them a SAR / just to make sure you are not being blamed in any way .GRADUATED FIRST CLASS WITH HONORS FROM THE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS RECOMENDED READ IF BY RUDYARD KIPLING0

Suffice to say OP has had the money refunded - the loser here is the lender - they will not give out information as how the fraud took place a others may copy it.GRADUATED FIRST CLASS WITH HONORS FROM THE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS RECOMENDED READ IF BY RUDYARD KIPLING0
