Mac and Movies

We converted to a Mac last year and I am using iphoto for my pictures and imovie for my videos. However, I am really struggling to work with imovie and my (5 years old) Sony video camera. Even when I eventually import the movies, I struggle to work with the program and edit or even watch back the films. Is there any better programmes I can use? Thanks

You know what i did
Went to google
typed
imovie similar
HEY PRESTO! Lots and Lots of software etc..........
Final Cut Pro i heard is supposed to be good.
it would be nice if you did some searches then maybe asked an opinion on what to use out of the results youve found.0 -
Application to Avoid: iPhoto
Indictment: iPhoto is limited in function, has funky save locations, and is insanely slow.
Superior Alternative(s): Lyn, Picasa
Application to Avoid: iMovie
Indictment: iMovie '06 was awesome but the new versions have lost features, slowed down performance, and added an oddball interface that makes it difficult to use.
Superior Alternative(s): iMovie 06, Avidemux0 -

you can find some software to replace your imovie and iphoto.
For iphoto i think you can use the google Picasa to edit your photos.
then you can use a video Editor to edit the videos.0 -
Thanks ada, I'll check it out. wapow - sorry if you thought I was being sarky, it's just that recently, I have found very sarky comment when asking for help on this forum. I did Google for video software, and as I am not very good with technology, thought I would ask advice here. I just thought someone here would be able to recommend something they are using.0
