I booked a black taxi at 11.45pm (just before the bar closed) to take us to the local Marriott where I'd booked a suite. It was expensive at just over £200 but it was worth every penny. We got a round of applause when we arrived, there were rose petals on the massive bed and a bottle of champagne and chocs waiting for us, plus a whirlpool bath!
It was just surreal to be in this amazing room after such a special day and it just really finished the day off perfectly. We got breakfast in bed the next morning and it was a really lovely way to wake up to my new husband!
It was a lot of money that I thought twice about before I booked it, but I'm so glad I did. We left for our honeymoon 2 days after so we did have the luxury of time.0 -
All the venues we're considering include a bridal suite for the first night as part of the price. If they didn't, I'd be happy to come home IF we would be on our own. However, as others have said, we'll have family staying in our house so we'd definitely want a hotel for that night. I always hear that most couples are too tired to actually do anything much on their wedding night and I bet we'll be the same...but there's always the next morning!

We didn't have a honeymoon straight away, we needed to save up so we'll probably have the big holiday for our first anniversary. Straight after the wedding we had a 'mini moon', a long weekend at a lovely local hotel. We checked in at about 1am on our wedding night, it was late but we felt the first night as man and wife was special and wanted some, ahem...privacy. I say book the hotel so you can spend time together and relax after the wedding without being surrounded by family. It doesn't have to add a lot to the wedding budget, look around for the best deal.0
