We didn't have a honeymoon, but did book a night in a very nice hotel a 3 minute walk from where we got married: it was expensive, but worth every penny and felt very special. As our wedding started at 4 and ended at 7pm, we were not too exhausted to enjoy it ;)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

We booked a hotel about 15 mins away from where we live. Staying at home wasn't an option as our kids were all staying there...and nothing kills your sex life more than teenagers in the room next door!
We were just going to get a small B&B but I got a deal on a gorgeous 4 star country house hotel for just £59 B&B for both of us, use of spa the next day. Best bit was getting there about midnight and going down the bar for a drink, just the two of us and having our own company. There was actually a wedding going on there in another function room but they ended up coming into the main bar and the bride came over and hugged me like I was her new bezzie mate and kept going on about what a brilliant day we'd both had!

We were planning on just coming back to the flat after our wedding. It was scheduled to run until at least 2AM, maybe til 4, so we did't see the point spending money on a hotel. In the end, we found that the hotel across the street was only a few quid more for the night than getting a taxi back, so we stayed in their best room instead.

In the end, we got to the room about 3 and it was lovely to have some one-on-one time to open some cards, discuss the day and chill a bit. It was also nice and clean and tidy - whereas the flat had just endured the chaos of a bunch of ladies getting ready for a wedding.

So, that was all rather low-key. We slept as late as we could then had a big family breakfast with everyone else that stayed in the hotel.

The next night we did our proper "wedding night" and got one of the best suites in the Hilton at Gatwick so we were set for out flight to the states on the Monday morning. And the best part? Got the suite in the less than half price sale :)

We'll be going home as we will have my daughter and OH daughter. Planning on having a night away/couple of days away probably the following weekend.

We are staying at home, maybe see some friends at the local cafe for breakfast who are staying nearby, then we are heading off for a couple of days quality time somewhere quiet.

I have to say i'm looking forward to a couple of days away from it all, with no phones etc.

Honeymoon will be a few weeks later at Glastonbury Festival if we can get the tickets :D

  • Madvixen - exactly what time do you envision leaving the wedding (does it finish at 11pm or 1am)?
What time is your taxi to the airport?

If you are literally going to be sleeping for 6hours and then going - stop at your parents' house and save the cash for an extra treat (think massage/fancy meal) while on honeymoon.

We stayed in a hotel which was fab for us - but we didn't check out until 12 and then stayed in the hotel bar until about 4pm! We also got married in the hotel, so it made more sense. We tried to have marital fun - but I pretty much passed out from all the alcohol/stress/dancing! You're first night at the honeymoon hotel could be your "first night"!

We've booked a couple of nights at local hotel before we set off on honeymoon. I know it seems a bit of a waste but I like to think it'll be lovely just the two of us as Mr & Mrs and also nice to be on honeymoon straght away rather than being home then going :)

We stayed in a hotel for 2 nights. Got there about half past midnight, probably went to sleep around 3 - too wired to sleep, took time for showers and, well, y'know. Got up late, had room service breakfast, enjoyed the room for the day, had dinner in the restaurant and then left the following day.

I would have felt a bit cheated if I'd had to leave the morning after the wedding, as our honeymoon wasn't until a week later.

However, if we'd been going straight off on honeymoon I think I still would have booked a hotel. The reason is, in a hotel you don't have to worry about noise or staying up late, or making a mess, or tidying the following morning. They make your breakfast and order your taxi and even wake you up on time. If you can find one near the airport, surely you'd get more of a lie in...?
