faulty Neff combi-microwave oven

Hi, I was just hoping to get some advice about a faulty combination microwave oven we have that I have complained to the manufacturer about.

In 2006 we had a new kitchen, with all new appliances all Neff. The combination microwave oven since then has required the cooling fan to be replaced 3 times with the last fan also being now faulty. Initially this was not a problem as thankfully I took out the extended warranty for all units in the kitchen. When we were on the fourth fan I did query this "quality" of these with Neff, which I had the impression was a reliable brand. They replied saying that a improved fan unit was now available and if they fitted it, the fan would be this type. However, our warranty has now expired and I will have to foot the bill for any replacement.

I contacted Neff maintenance about this and they have eventually offered to pay £30 of the part cost but none of the technicians fee. I estimate this will still leave me over £100 out of pocket - with no confidence that this will not be the last time I have to shell out for it. This small allowance is only valid for 28 days.

This has all left me wondering if there is a fault in the main oven causing the fan to fail, or if it is just a poor design. Either way I am wondering if I should go back and try and push for more or just accept their initial offer.

So any advice would be welcomed.

It might be worth contacting Neff again, explaining that due to all the problems that you've had with the microwave, you think that it might be a dodgy design.
Say that because of this you are considering purchasing a different model of oven, and if you were to do this, would they be willing to offer you any discount on it instead of the discount on the replacement parts for your current unit.

If they were to make an offer, and you take this and the estimated £100 you will have to pay for the repairs to your oven, it might not work out too expensive to swop.

Thanks, I had not considered that point of view. To be honest I am unsure whether to trust to the quality of Neff again, but it is probably a point worth raising.

Although this thread is a few months old I believe this is relevant:
Being now on our second £700+ Neff combi all-singing, all-dancing oven with grill, microwave etc. I am fast coming to the conclusion that they are not of the quality some of us have expected relative to price.
Our first one: After only 5 years one sheet of the glass in the door crumbled like double glazing does. The cost of a replacement posed the risk of gambling with whether the oven would last for much longer so we replaced the whole thing and gave the old one away for parts.
Now the replacement one, same model, has after only 3 years presented a microwave failure for which the parts will cost approx £200 plus labour. There's one currently on E-Bay with exactly the same problem... is there a link there methinks? Not worth spending that much money plus labour? :(
Its clear that consumers are being exploited by the prices put on the spares which cannot possibly cost anywhere near that to manufacture and transport even from the other side of the world where 'slave labour' produces them!
I think we should have a Ministry for Consumer Rights which sets a minimum working life for such products and publicises those which have on average met the criteria of being sound and long lasting relative to the retail price. That way these companies which source parts from a variety of manufacturers and buy-cheap-sell-expensive might be reined in.

I accept working parts can deteriorate and am prepared to pay for a repair.

But what I do not accept is that parts, after I stripped down the door because liquid was now running down the inside of the triple glazed door, spoiling the look of the door, are exhibiting probably 2 years of rust!!!!!! This is scary. The part concerned was enamel coated on the visible side- but the part that no one would see was BARE METAL!!!! This is unacceptable on an oven that is subjected to loads and loads of moisture. Neff replaced the part FOC but have still charged me the call out charge. I have photographs of the rust and will take the matter further. " The engineer said " IT WORKS- WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?" I said we have a business in the metal coatings industry and do not accept this situation. Neff agreed to replace the part FOC, but on the second visit the first replacement part was damaged so he had to book another call out to get another replacement. He didn't charge for the call out on the final visit saying he didn't think I would pay it. I have now had an invoice which I have paid today, which I have paid; but I will get that money back and compensation for the inconvenience and several phone calls I have made. When I had my new kitchen 7 years ago with all Neff appliances my friend said my husband always said "NEFF IS NAFF!!!!!!" I thought she was jealous but now I think her husband was right.

Friends of mine had a NEFF double oven for 22 years without any problems, but my gut feeling is recent appliances are not made to the same standards as the old appliances.

I thought Miele products, were like the Mercedes car build and still are: Neff/AEG were like the Audi/BMW car build, and AEG still are; but I think my Neff combi oven is like the old SKODA build - " It rusts".

This is just my opinion for what its worth............

But I do have the photographs to prove it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
