Camping for Free??

Is there anywhere that me and my boyfriend could go camping for free?

I have someone I can borrow a tent from and can put a bit of money in for petrol and take some food etc but can't really afford to pay for a caravan or a b&b so camping seems to be the next best option.

Any ideas?

    Hi Squidge,

You should get more help with this on the Uk Holdiays board so I've moved your thread over there.

There are very few places where you can camp for free - these are usually in the wilds with no facilities at all other than a shovel for you to dig a hole to do your business in.

Campsites with showers and toilets tend to charge from £5 per person per night upwards. There is one good one in Dorset called Primrose Hill Farm - he used to charge £5 per person per night (it may be £6 now), you need to take your own toilet roll and some 20ps for the shower (he doesnt mind if you shower share either e.g. two people in same shower). There are others who charge more e.g. £10-15 a night.

I have been to one at Kington in Herefordshire - it is behind the bus station so you have to drive through the bus station to get to it, in the summer they were charging £5 per head per night and they had free hot showers. It was a nice level site next to a river.

Awesome. I don't mind if I have to pay a little bit but I can't afford to pay the earth. I've never been camping and me and the boyf need to get away for a bit.

    Thanks for the info

Sorry I do not know of anywhere that is totally free, but would recommend Shell Island,Llanbedr,North Wales, for a great site.

Always used to camp there when my kids were little, started putting a couple of tins of this and that, plus a few packets, just after Xmas so had most of the food in before we went, then just needed petrol money and site fees, not expensive, even now.

Visit ukcampsite.co.uk and look at sites which only accept tents. You will find they are often cheaper than sites which accept caravans as they are at the back of pubs, farmers fields etc etc and have more basic facilities.
