Love soups and love making them too, so couldn't resist the Covent Garden A Soup for Every Day

Was in Llandudno at the weekend and got it for £5.99 (new) a discount bookshop there. It looks fab. Have bookmarked so many to try. Starting with Butternut Squash, Ginger and Chilli tonight. Yum!
I really like the Covent Garden soup books - I think I've got them all, bar the newest one. Only thing I don't like about the earlier ones is the page colours, sometimes they're not the easiest to read. They're great recipes though.
My most recent bargain was a copy of Kitchenella by Rose Prince from my local The Works, which was £3.99. Lots of lovely recipes in there!0 -
I'm felling a bit pious as I had a clear out recently but couldn't part with the ones I use regularly - Rachel Allen's Bake, Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days, Good Housekeeping (several), numerous Delia's, my favourite Ina Garten books and a very dog earer "Hamlyn All colour cookbook" which I was given as a teenager some 25+ years ago. Actually the pious feeling has just evaporated as I've counted some 23 books!
I also have dozens of WRI, Rural and charity cook books which date back to the early 70's and are fab for good old fashioned baking. My trusty BeRo is looking a bit the worse for wear and I did get a new one a year or so back but it just isn't quite the same!
My biggest weakness though is that I remove recipes from magazines and then laminate them so I have a storage box absolutely full of them. I visit the US quite often and whilst I'm getting better at not buying actual cookery books I do buy magazines and detach recipes from them. One of my most dog eared little books is called "101 things to do with canned soup" - probably indicates how sad I am:o
My least used ones are 3 Nigella books - Feast, Kitchen and Express. I can't quite explain why as I've made things from them all but I'm just not drawn to them like the others.
Of course I haven't included my Christmas specific books in the total - they don't really count do they?????0 -

So do I! I love the Cracker Barrel Country Store and so far have resisted the Campbell's Soup Recipe book, but only because the soup varieties used are not all available here!
I find my Jamie Oliver books my most underused. I do like to browse them, but never get around cooking from them somehow.
SWAN, I only wish I found mine in a charity shop! Someone will have a great find. Better to let it go than not use it though.
ETA Butternut squash chilli and ginger soup was good, but as ever with recipes, will need tweaking for my taste. Too much butter, not enough chilli.0 -

I shouldn't encourage you all really (I am just as bad with cookery books) but I have just noticed amazon have "More takeaway secrets" for kindle for 99p.
Apologies if someone has already posted it. I haven't got time to look through all the posts, but I thought someone might be interested in the book as the takeaway secret seemed quite popular in past discussions I have read.0 -

.
I have managed to find cream of celery at Asda which opened up many of the recipes to me - now to find the cheese ones!
Cracker Barrel and The Machine Shed (very similar) are my favourite places - I so want one of the rocking chairs from the front porch of cracker barrel. At least it wouldn't be another cook book!0 -
Oooooh! Not familiar with Machine Shed, but Googled it - it looks fab! Not in areas I go to though.
I too would just love a Cracker Barrel Rocker (white woven), a Campbell's Cookbook plus 12 months supply of US variety soups, a dozen packs of Cracker Barrel Coffee, a couple jars Bone Suckin Sauce, a gallon of Tony's Clam Chowder ......but case is always too stuffed with Ghirardelli Chocolate!!!!
BTW, why oh why can we not get that super thick paper towel roll here?!!!
Will shut up now...totally off topic!0 -
I have lots of cook books also and always gave good intentions of cooking lots from them, but then go back to my standard receipes. Have been very good recently though, last one was the covernt garden soup one. But then i happen to see the Hairy Dieters book back on the book people for preorder and together with a free del code....well it would be rude not to......?!'You have brains in your head.
