I just wondered, for those of you who have 100s of books, which are the few that you always come back to and use the most?
Cordon Rouge: Vegetarian and Vegan Recipes from the Red Herring
    Leiths Cookery Bible
    Rose Elliot's Vegetarian Cooking
    Beth Kidder's Milk Free Kitchen
    Rosemary Wadey's Beginner's Cookbook

I have reference and kitchen copies of the first two, and have just ordered a second copy of a new addition, Regan Daley's In The Sweet Kitchen (and I've only read the first 250 pages since it arrived on Monday)

Popped into the local British Heart Foundation for a gander at the cook books. Had a good selection, but prices were from £4+

Was hoping to get a 50p bargain, then I could justify it to DH, but alas, left empty handed x

Why has this thread made me feel all warm and fuzzy?
I have been a cooking addict for over 30 years,Im 44 but have always prefered cooking mags than teen ones.
I grew up with a very clever, very traditional Welsh grandmother and think my skills and interests were inherited from her ( I have yet to make her wonderful Caraway seed cake yet)
I love cookery books but definately the more old fashioned ones I would love the Mrs Beaton household management mentioned earlier.
I am presently thinking of selling my newer Jamie ones as they are not really 'me'
Sadly the charity shops around me seem so expensive,so I will have to go down the car boot route..I have just saved up for a Kitchenaid mixer and I love it so much I definately need more books to experiment with.:)

I lurve seed cake :) it's one of those things you *have* to make as you just can't buy it anywhere. A slice of good seed cake with a cup of tea is my idea of heaven :)

I've decided that I have to use my cook books more so I've been on a bit of a mission just lately. This week it's Jamie's Food Revolution (good recipes - baked camembert pasta is amazing ... - although a lot of the timings seem off, I think I must have a very rubbish cooker) and Saving Dinner, which has been suprisingly good.
