Porting numbers to same network question
Hi
My contract has finished with Vodafone and I want to stay with Vodafone but the phone I want is not available through them.
I have found the phone I want at Phones4U and they are offering a good Vodafone contract but only as a new contract. Therefore I cannot upgrade to that plan and keep my existing number.
My question is which is the best way to keep my existing number and stay with Vodafone but qualifies me for the Phones4U deal.
Can i take out a new number and then call vodafone to transfer to the new tariff and cancel the old?
Or port my existing number to a Orange PAYG sim and then take out the phones4u deal and port back my number again to vodafone?
Thanks

Hi Kopper. Best bet is to port to a PAYG SIM and port back. There are some cases where you can keep the number with the same network (if you were moving from a consumer to business contract for example), but unlikely in this case. It may be worth checking with Vodafone to make sure, but I'm pretty sure you'll have to do the PAYG port route. Hope this helps.0

No need in porting to another network and back.
- Ask them to switch you to PAYG as soon as the min term expires (30 days notice required).
- Buy a new contract.
- Keep your pay as you go number when you move to pay monthly

This seems the best option but did you say it takes 30 days to switch to PAYG? I0 -
Have you phoned Phones4U to ask what they can do? You can upgrade with Phones 4U rather than Vodafone, might save some messing around......0

After the min term expired any contract requires 30 days notice to cancel it. Switching to PAYG (or porting out) is the same as cancellation. They can switch you earlier if you ask, but will charge you for 30 days regardless. This seems the best option but did you say it takes 30 days to switch to PAYG? I0 -

I have but that particular deal I am after is for new connections to Vodafone only and not for existing customers0 -
Hi kopper,
I am sorry to hear that we aren't offering the phone you were interested in getting as part of your upgrade.
As grumbler has mentioned, we can transfer your existing contract to PAYG and then once you have set up the new contract we can transfer the number from PAYG onto your new contract for you. We will need 30 days notice of cancellation so that we can schedule the transfer to PAYG.
If you need any more help, let me know.
Thanks,
Heidi
