I am very lucky in that I have a smashing friend who is brilliant at decluttering.I always end up with loads of stuff gone as she will even stick in her car and cart it off to the hospice shop in Dartford so I don'r get the chance to change my mind. She is very minimilistic in her house and this year mone of my small spare rooms has been transformed into a computer room with lots of my bits all tidily sorted and the junk got rid of .After my spring holiday we are going to start on the other spare room. She is so good she could make a career out of it I think.

We are using Spring as a good excuse to sort through all our stuff and have a good declutter. For us it's not so much about cleaning as sorting things out. What with unexpected guests and so on we've had a few bags of things moved from pillar to post recently so we're going through those. We're also having a sort out of our clothes, what fits, what doesn't and the like. This is also partly to help out a friend of ours who has lost everything in a house fire, so we are sorting out things to give to her.

    Our tasks yesterday were
Sort out chest of drawers (x2)
    Pack away any winter clothing
Go through towels and sheets to sort any worn ones
Sort through spare curtains and nets and decide what to do with them

    Today the plan is
    Sort drawers under bed (x4)
Sort books and put any back where they should be
Go through paperwork and shred those from 2004 that are no longer needed
List items on Ebay that are sellable, otherwise put a box together for charity.

I am a manic spring cleaner. In every room furniture is pulled away from walls. All walls inside get washed down with whatever cleaner I have on the go at the time. Windows, including frames and sills washed. All curtains get washed/dry cleaned. All carpets shampooed. Winter duvets washed. Wardrobes and drawers emptied ,cleaned and sorted. Chimney swept. Kitchen cupboards and oven scrubbed.

Hard work, but for me the plus side is, that for the rest of the year I keep the housework to a minimum, in a routine but nonetheless a minimum. I am also a firm believer of "A place for everything and everything in it's place. Makes me sound a bit anal but I actually believe it gives me so much more free time.

I don't "spring clean", but I do feel more like cleaning when it's sunny, if that makes any sense.

The garage had the start of a good sort out today.

    :D

I'm lazy with housework most of the time so I let rip once a year in style.

I forgot to add, I don't usually wash the carpets during my spring clean. I do that nearer to Christmas because we usually have friends and their kids descend. They either spend time stretched out on the carpets playing games or annoying the cats, or end up sleeping on blow ups on the floor around the house.

My own personal bug bear is whiffy carpets...

  • My living room curtains and all the nets through the house desperately need doing, but i'm waiting for some better weather so I can get them dry. It's raining here today!

We have started to spring clean our house although at the moment it looks worse than it did before! Putting a few things on ebay and amazon with many items going to freecycle and local charity shops. I really don't mind cleaning it is getting rid of teh clutter to get to the surfaces that bothers me!
