    Hello,

I'm thinking of doing a Spring Clean of the House, the whole jobby top to bottom.

I've decided to also do it MSE-style & look for the following in each room while I'm at it:-

Old Coins- Under beds, couch etc, gonna Put em in a jar towards a well-earned DVD rental.

eBay/Bootie stuff- anything not is use is going on eBay or Bootie, that shouls encourage some hoarding-type volunteers.

MSE-style Energy look out- e.g. check for Draughts, replace bulbs with Energy saving ones, etc. (double green clubcard points on them on Tesco too at mo) while I'm in each room

"Aaah there It is!" stuff - find stuff that's gone missing & use it instead of buying it 'cos thought it was gone-for-good. Last time I recall, amongst other items, finding 6 rolls of cellotape having just bought some!

Anyone fancy joining me? (not literally!) & posting any ideas/finds/sells & other discoveries (old mouldy plates perhaps?) on here.

Good luck to You All with everything Money Saving xxx

Pick up a black bag, go into the next room and throw away at least 27 items of junk/waste paper - whatever. Once you start you will not stop.

Or set the timer for 15 mins, pop on some music and start in one corner. Once timer goes go and have a coffee, come back and do same again.

    Flylady principles, little and often!

Well done on the one clear room, if you get fed up go have a good look at it and remember you want your whole house to look like that!

Don't overtire yourself. Pat yourself on the back for the great work you've done so far, and have a cuppa or something.

Then, after a 15 min break, do as Shell suggested with the black bag trick.

    And enjoy your afternoon out.

    Hiya,

Maybe it`s best to do one room thoroughly and then stop now before you are overtired. There is no virtue in overdoing it- be pleased as the other posters have said that you have achieved a lot today. Put the kettle on and pour a cup for us as well(!)

How about a list which is therapeutic of the jobs you want to do which you can keep handy. You`ll be thrilled when you tick it off one by one.

Housework sadly will always be there but there are other things to enjoy right now!

You've done a whole room in a day - that's B good going. I agree with jan, give yourself a break - Spring lasts quite a long time ;)

I am with those who say you shouldn't beat yourself up about not doing enough housework! It never goes away!

Spring cleaning is about getting into those nooks and crannies that don't get cleaned regularly. It's about hoovering your curtains, washing down skirting boards, dusting on top of the wardrobe etc and making all the house clean...

I am not a big lover of housework although I like my place to be clean...so I believe in doing little and often. Life is too short to be worrying that you can't compete with Andrea Turner! (Who'd want to anyway? )

Congratulate yourself on your achievemnents so far and take a well earned break. Do another big job around the house another day. There is no time limit on spring cleaning! (I cleaned out my porch cupboard last winter.)

For me there is spring, summer, autumn, and winter cleaning. What doesn't get done today gets done....er.... when I feel like making a big effort again...and that could be weeks or months away! :D

    Hi All,

I am planning on moving back to my old house very soon (my husband has been in it alone for a few months). The problem is it's in a disgusting state. I have been gone 9 months and he has just let the place go! It hasn't been vaccumed, dusted, floors haven't been washed and the list goes on. He claims that he needs help but being pregnant I am not doing very well health wise. My daughter is have her 4th birthday party there but it's I am really embarrassed for all the parents to see it in such a disgusting state. Has anyone had one off cleans before? What was cleaned? and how much did it cost? Also was everything cleaned on the same day?

Does the cleaning company come around first to see what you want done, the size of the property and then give you a timescale with price? I just want to know roughly what we could be looking at?

    Thanks again!

When I was at xcollege I used to work for a company who did this. They specialised in cleaning up houses after floods, and building work or bad tenants.

The boss would usual go round aand have a look but sometimes they would just charge a set price by the size of the house, For a super clean the average 3bed semi would be about 40-60 for a few hours work.

Where in the country are you, i still know some of the people and I'll ask for you? Good luck with the baby!
