PAYG dongal - Advice please.

Hi All,

Sorry but I'm after some help with getting a dongal for my laptop, but I'm a total techno phobe so I'm not up on how many Mb's I use etc.

I do have a mobile which i can use the internet on and can use works wireless for that while at work (lunchtime etc), but I'm just after a dongal for home for my laptop as getting rid of my Virgin Broadband and other services.

i don't download films etc, I only use my laptop or internet phone a few times a week for a few hours, mainly to come on this site, do a bit of shopping (If I've got some money!!) and just browse, so don't want to be paying a fortune for something I won't use most of, like I do at the mo with Virgin. If anyone could offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm so glad I read this thread tonight as I thought it was me who had come home from work that way out and who'd let Virgin wind them up, but I'm glad to read it's not just me and it's loads of folk they are annoying at the mo. I've been a Virgin customer for over 10 years and last year when i was made redundant I reduced my package with them. i was never told at the time that I was tied in for another year. but, my bill has just shot up and when i phone tonight to ask why i was told that my deal had ended and that was the price I had to pay from now on, so after not being able to use my TV and broadband for 3 days in less than a week and this happening so often, I'm really annoyed, and so I'm going to write to them as advised on some of the other posts and cancel. I'm looking at getting an aerial put up, not have a landline and get a mobile dongal as I've had it to the back teeth with Virgin.

Sorry for the rant.

Wuzz

I also have a 3 dongle and it's been pretty good. I recently replaced the 3 Sim with a Freedom Sim off eBay, £20 for six months at 3Gb per month is a lot cheaper than the 3 deal was. Vodafone won't get a connection at all, at home. I am considering getting one of the new "up to" 20Mbps 3 dongles, to see if it makes things better, though in all honesty the performance is adequate.

Yes, Three is very good. Must say that Freedom Sim sounds like a good deal.

I use 3UK and their MiFi unit to connect up to 5 devices when my Virgin connection is out, so I get the best of both worlds, and have never been out of touch. However, DO check your coverage for the mobile network first for where you plan to use it.

In case Buzby is busy, :), put your post code into the relevant box in the link below. Find the blue marker nearest you, ideally less then 500m, click on it for more info as to provider and type of transmission which should be UMTS.

    Move along, nothing to see.
  • My son swears by his new 3 dongle, it's £18 a month and he loves it.
