Trivago problems

After reading that Trivago were a good place to search for hotels I used them for the first - and almost certainly last - time recently.
I searched for a hotel in Amsterdam and added all the specifations that were required. It brought up a good value deal at the Waterfront hotel so I clicked on the 'view deal' icon and booked via the link.
When I received my confirmation I saw that I had been taken to a place called Waterfront B & B in a totally different part of town! I contacted the hotel who said I would have to take it up with Trivago as it was nothing to do with them and they could not refund my deposit.
Naturally I contacted Trivago but have had no response. What's more the link I had issues with is STILL active. If you go to Trivago and find the Waterfront Hotel on Singel (I am unable to post links as a new user it seems) and click on 'view deal' you end up somewhere else so Trivago haven't even read my email. They appear happy for people to book at the wrong hotel as the link still works - I just tried it.
Obviously I'm not happy that I have lost my deposit for the booking. As Trivago haven't responded to my complaint I have had to bite the bullet and book somewhere else, so in effect Trivago has cost me MORE money as opposed to saving it!
I went and looked at lastminute.com and they found me a cheaper and nicer hotel without any hassle.
Just be careful. Trivago, on my only experience, seems very sloppily run...

Did you pay by credit card? If you did, then raise a dispute with your card company and they may be able to get your refund.Retired in 2015.

Trivago is a comparison site. They don't actually sell any hotels.
They are just a platform for websites such as booking.com , hotels.com, hostelbookers.com to sell their inventory. Your complaint should really be directed to the booking site who took your payment.0 -
But the link itself was provided by Trivago NOT the booking agent! I'd say that makes it a Trivago error. If their link took me to the right hotel I would have no grumble, but it didn't, just to one with a similar name.
Try it and see - their link takes you to a different hotel.0 -
so you have 2 issues
1) you are reporting an error in the Trivago website - which you have done
2) you want to get your deposit back in which case you need to contact the people that have your money (which is not Trivago)0 -
3) letting people know to take care on Trivago!
I'm working on 2 but the link is Trivago's error, hence my post.0 -
The data file would be provided by the 3rd party booking website. When you click the link you are taken to a 3rd party website. That is who your booking and contract is with.
The clue is in the name of the booking site. HOSTELWORLD
The Trivago link takes you to this page.Waterfront B & B Amsterdam
Waterfront B & B offers a quaint and cosy twin room located on a quiet canal near the famous Jordaan area of Amsterdam.
We are a spotlessly clean, friendly, family run establishment and we speak 4 European languages.
The bed and breakfast is located within walking distances of all the places of interest such as Anne Frank's House which is 10 minute walking distance away. 4 tram stops away is the Van Gogh Museum.
Our twin room has private entrance, private bathroom with shower, cable TV, DVD and tea/coffee making facilities. The area is very safe, very quiet and there are more boats passing by than cars!
Price includes a great continental breakfast.0 -
So it's OK for Trivago to display a link which takes you to booking details for the wrong hotel?
I was trying to show people they should be careful when using the site as misleading and incorrect links exist. Apparently that's not the issue according to the responses here. Very odd.0 -
I also had problems with Trivago. I booked a holiday in Almeria, Spain through them. They passed me to Clever Hotels (a German company). I arrived in August 2013 after driving 2,000 miles, to find booking cancelled. Clever Hotels had gone bankrupt. Trivago did not want to know and Clever Hotels was not bonded. Luckily Hotel was very nice (Sercotel) but we had to pay all over again. Beware Trivago!0

to correct you - you used Trivago to compare prices for a hotel and you booked through Clever Holidays and paid Clever holidays.
It is similar to using comparison sites to compare car insurance, you would then take insurance with the company of your choice, pay them and receive your insurance through them. If you had an accident you would not contact the comparison site
You should have received an email from Clever Hotels advising the situation but guess you may have been en route at the time

If you paid by credits card on the original booking you should have made a claim through them0
