'snug' australia - do not buy

Randomly this thread reminds me of AbFab 1994 Episode "Poor" and Edina's rant in court...
"But we're not all stupid! We don't all need nurse-maiding. I mean, why not just have a Stupidity Tax? Just tax the stupid people!"
I love a good "retailer is a scammer" rant when it turns out to be a "didn't do any research just thought I could get these boots cheap" rant.0 -
Anyone who doesn't know that goods bought from abroad can be subject to import taxes should NOT be allowed to have access to the internet, or a telephone. Ever.0

I don't see the reasoning of that assertion. :-/
OK - the OP made a mistake and she has learned the hard way - she will unlikely make the same error again - irrespective of whether she has a telephone/internet access or not.0 -
DO NOT BUY FROM SNUG AUSTRALIA (snugaustraliadotcom)
I bought 2 pairs of sheepskin boots (after reading on MSE that they are genuine 100% sheepskin confirmed by Decker), before Christmas. They are lovely comfy fluffy ugg boots HOWEVER, in January I was slapped with a bill from the couriers TNT for VAT & Import Duty for another £61!!! Stupid me, i could have and should have and wished I had bought the real Ugg Australia uggs from a local boutique and they would have cost me much less than I have paid this company.
Also when I contacted Snug Australia regarding returning the boots they said I had to pay my own postage (£40+) and I would immediately lose 20% of the price I had paid even though were still unworn and in the original packaging??!!
DO NOT BE FOOLED:mad::mad::mad: DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
348 AU DOLLARS = ABOUT £235 + £61 VAT & EXCISE = BIG FAT RIP OFF AND STUPID ME:(:(
Unbelievable, just wondering if this is just another waste your time wind up thread!
How can you blame and say that snugaustralia ripped you off and not to buy off them because of something they have nothing to do with ie UK Customs & Excise.
The only sensible thing you have said in your post was "STUPID ME".0 -
I'd like to thank the OP as unlike all of the other smarty pants on here who have posted above I am glad that somebody is highlighting to others that customs is often higher than expected, and so an item that might have appeared to be a bargain is anything but.
Thanks OP, ignore the people who have nothing better to do than be supercilious.
Then the original post should have read...
"I bought some boots from overseas thinking they'd be cheaper, but failed to realise that import duty can add a significant amount to the original cost. Just thought I'd quickly post to raise a bit of awareness just in case there's anyone else in the same boat"..
Instead the post read...
"I've been SCAMMED! Snug Australia are RIP OFF MERCHANTS!!!"

The customs chaps must HATE shoes though. When i moved back to the uk from abroad i got charged 40 odd quid to import a box of my own clothes just because it contained shoes!
You shouldn't have been charged duty or VAT on your own personal effects! However, there are certain things that are restricted. For example, you are not allowed to bring in items made from endangered species, including shoes. They wouldn't know whether they were OK unless they inspected them. I know it sounds daft because every traveller coming into this country has shoes on their feet! I was stopped in NZ because I had walking boots in my pack! They thought they might have mud (and seeds) on them.0 -

Exactly right.
I use the C3 form (which is buried on the HMRC website but can be found here: http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/forms/view.page?record=opaA875KlVk&formId=179) when bringing belongings over from Canada. It's a bit of a faff but means that your belongings sail through customs, only being inspected for the sensible reasons of making sure you're not bringing any prohibited goods into the country.0 -
Goodness what sharks you all are, sniping away.
Goodness how naive you are, thinking we're all wrong.
What do you want us to do, slag the website off, tell the OP she is correct and should receive £1000 compensation and a free Bentley for the hassle?
The OP is wrong, I am not here to agree with people, I speak the truth. If you don't like the truth you're on the wrong website.0
