'snug' australia - do not buy

DO NOT BUY FROM SNUG AUSTRALIA (snugaustraliadotcom)
I bought 2 pairs of sheepskin boots (after reading on MSE that they are genuine 100% sheepskin confirmed by Decker), before Christmas. They are lovely comfy fluffy ugg boots HOWEVER, in January I was slapped with a bill from the couriers TNT for VAT & Import Duty for another £61!!! Stupid me, i could have and should have and wished I had bought the real Ugg Australia uggs from a local boutique and they would have cost me much less than I have paid this company.
Also when I contacted Snug Australia regarding returning the boots they said I had to pay my own postage (£40+) and I would immediately lose 20% of the price I had paid even though were still unworn and in the original packaging??!!
DO NOT BE FOOLED:mad::mad::mad: DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
348 AU DOLLARS = ABOUT £235 + £61 VAT & EXCISE = BIG FAT RIP OFF AND STUPID ME :(:(:(

Just because you are ignorant of import duty VAT (and repackaging) doesn't make it the fault of an oversees merchant.

It's not really snugaustralia's fault though, is it? If these goods attract import duty then so be it. It's just the law on tax. Hardly the company's fault! Sure, their T&Cs regarding returns don't seem great, but then they're not covered by UK law so what can you do? Them's the risks of buying from overseas, I'm afraid.

Did you miss the bit on their website where they say 'International orders might be subject to import taxes/duties. For information, please contact your local customs authority. Any such taxes are the responsibility of the parcel recipient and are not paid by SNUG Australia.' ?

I'd like to thank the OP as unlike all of the other smarty pants on here who have posted above I am glad that somebody is highlighting to others that customs is often higher than expected, and so an item that might have appeared to be a bargain is anything but.
Thanks OP, ignore the people who have nothing better to do than be supercilious.

But the OP is claiming they (snug) are a scam outfit when quite clearly they are not.

They cannot be responsible for the purchaser not understanding import custom rules thats the OPs responsibility.

Everyone by now should understand that we operate a customs & excise body - you knwo the folks who check you when you arrive back from holly-bobs into the uk? same people.

If you dont and dont understand how importing goods from another country to the UK works then you should not attempt to purchase from outside the UK.

People are not being smarty pants they are stating facts. Sorry if facts are something you dont appear to like.

Big fat rip off? No, stupidity and not reading things properly is the cause of the problem.

You should learn to take responsibility for your actions, they've done nothing wrong. It's not their fault you can't read.

Or pointing out that the OP was in the wrong not the company they bought from.

I can understand the frustration, but when the cost of import/export of these boots was the issue, surely looking into a return was only ever going to end in tears!

The customs chaps must HATE shoes though. When i moved back to the uk from abroad i got charged 40 odd quid to import a box of my own clothes just because it contained shoes!

Even if those replies are true which they are, why is it so bad ?
