Alternative to Flora? (not butter please)

  • Going back to this thread - I hadn't realised until today that there were more replies; thanks - I'd like to thank the posters who suggested Clover. I tried it and discovered I liked it better than the original version of Flora, let alone the new 'improved' (!) variety, so Flora have officially lost a customer permanently through their inability to leave well enough alone.

Funny you should say that - as I've just finished my first tub of Clover and Aldi was the only place I was passing yesterday, I bought 'Love It' to see if I could cut costs. I haven't tried it yet so am pleased to hear it tastes like Clover. :)

If you see double cream in the reduced shelf it is very easy to make butter yourself. As long as you don't put salt in it you can freeze it. I bought cream for 10p at christmas and made some and my son really liked it. I think I bought a 450ml tub and it made more than 300g of butter.

If your mixer isn't working you can make it in a jar.

If you google or youtube it you will find links like this one.

Many thanks. Certainly I prefer the taste of butter to any other spread, but I find it easier to keep a reasonable limit on how much of the spread I consume if it isn't butter, not only because it's easier to spread thinly but because, while perfectly acceptable, it isn't quite so irresistible. This applies both to how much of the spread I put on and to how many slices I eat in the first place. Butter has a disastrous effect on my willpower!
