I also like clover but I never liked Flora, it tasted like marg I thought, so clover may not be to you taste.
I can't believe it's not butter & utterly butterly smell too much like marg to me, maybe they would be better alternatives.
I hate it when things you've used for years are "improved" & you no longer like them.

normally I don't get on with lower calorie spreads but Country Life Lighter is absolutely delicious and virtually indistiguishable from the full fat version (calories per 100 g, butter 740, flora orig 531, country life full fat 689, country life lighter 549). I have also tried clover lighter and its not a patch on real clover.

Give bertollis olive spread a try, it's the best I have found.

We like the bertolli spread too.
  • Lots of good suggestions here, thank you all. I will probably try some of the olive spreads (nice but not too moreish is just what I'm after!) - Bertolli sounds good although probably more pricey than own brands, so will have a go with those first. I did try Flora Buttery once but actually didn't like the taste much for some reason.

Inspace, that's interesting to know - glad I'm not the only one! Who knows, maybe they'll change back.

Some of the brands may be currently cheaper at the moment as well. If you want you could try searching the following:

mySupermarket (click any image to compare prices)

    &

HotUKDeals (found the Utterly Butterly offer after searching HotUKDeals) (search box is located top right hand corner)

It could be quite an expensive trial & error, you should ask your friends what they use & get them to let you have enough for a slice of toast to trial.
  • Another vote for Vitalite. My DH was a Flora fan but I need a dairy free marg and didn't want to buy two different spreads. This was the only one where he didn't even notice that I'd switched.

I agree!! I'm amazed at how much spreads and butter have gone up in price, probably more than any other item.

I have Flora Light (or rather DH does, I usually don't bother) and I'm always searching for offers. Currently I have a few tubs from when it was on offer in Tesco. When it's gone I'll try whichever of the suggestions on here is cheapest!!

I buy Olive spreads from Aldi or Lidl. My OH likes them and they cost round about £1 for 500g - may be a bit more now since I haven't bought any for ages because I stock up when its on offer and put it in the freezer. He used to have Flora but went off it a while ago and although he is quite picky he approves of the Aldi/Lidl alternatives.
I eat spreadable "butter" because I like the taste of it and dislike the taste of the so-called alternative healthy spreads.
My favourite is lurpak but like a previous poster I also love President unsalted butter but it has to be left out or it is too hard to spread and battles with soft bread.
