In a right pickle dont know what to do

I own a 2 bed property and have recently given birth to twins making my total number of children 3 plus a stepson.

We are now having to rent a 3 bed property , my partner in the construction trade is now out of wrk and struggling to find more

So we are in receipt of housing benefit at our rented property and the housing office is aware our other property is up for sale. We will not making a profit from the property as negative equity.

I cant sell it for love no money but it is draining us of a very needed 300 pound a month . Im not sure if I can rent it out or I assume I cant because im receiving housing benefit.

We are due to lose the WTC Element soon due to changing in Wtc laws My work wont up my hours to 24 said they havent got them to give.

Basically when all said I will be better asking my partner the father to all my children the man i have been with for 10 years to move back to his mums ...... the only way we are gonna be able to stay afloat

I really dont want to do this tho but just dont know what to do with all the above going on.

Any advise welcome

Why don't you move back to the property that you own?
Twins in 1 room, DSS in the other and you and OH in the living room.
You might be able to apply for help with the interest on the mortgage.

I don't mean to sound condesending (sp?) but as a tax payer I think it's ridiculous that you are getting housing benefit while you already own a property that is lying empty.

Can you not find another job that will give you the hours you need to increase your WTC?

It's plenty big enough! Especially if you only have your SS on the weekends!

2 kids per bedroom, you and your OH in the living room. Plenty of people do it.

I don't think much sympathy is going to be forthcoming here.

Unfortunately I too believe that you should be coping with what you have in a home that you own, and with a husband in the construction trade I am certain that your home could accomodate you. Plenty of others struggle with a lot less.

Please rethink your situation, it may be uncomfortable in the present but the ability to handle the situation yourself whilst removing your burden from the public should not be underestimated.

I wish you good luck whatever your outcome.

I try every day to look for the extra hours I need also for my partner full-time work.

If we move back to the other property what then . Mortgage companies obviously won't lend us more to get a bigger property. We owe what we borrowed to buy house bar a couple of thousand which will only pay estate agents fee and solicitors when sells. If it goes at the asking price.

Is be a fool to let this council house go they are so rare . In thhr near future I would need to rent anyeay surely better housing paying rent on council house than the extortionate private rental out there.

I had the option to go rent privately but I don't agree with gthe astronomical rents

Zero sympathy and no advice but to give up the council house to someone who deserves it/share with us which council has so many free houses that they're dishing them out willy-nilly to people who already own houses?!

You say you recently gave birth to twins, so assuming you are human and your gestational period was no longer than 9 months, you got pregnant well into the current economic situation, so you can't claim to be some kind of victim of circumstances.

You owned a 2 bedroomed house in negative equity. You already had a child and have to accomodate a step-child at weekends. Your OH is in construction and we're in a recession. And you decide to get pregnant. Nice move.

Advice is, you own your own home (which is more than a lot of people do) that is perfectly adequate to house your family, so don't expect the tax payer (a lot of which are in a no better situation than yourself), to fund the luxury of a larger property.

Also, you are taking up a housing association property that could be used by another family in need.

And why do you think private rents are "astronomical"? If you managed to let out your property, as you have discussed, would you

    A) Let it out nice and cheap to keep yourself in line with this principal?

    or

    B) Charge a rental rate that covers your mortgage plus an aditional % for repairs and other contingencies?

    Hmmmm......
  • You say you have 'just' given birth to twins. Do they need their own room? I had my children in the bedroom with me when they were babies. You only need one cot for twins - put them end to end, they'll be quite happy :D
