I have a Cap One classic visa with a credit limit of £600 i have only had one increase since having it from the £200 upto £600. I applied for the progress card and have been accepted with a Limit of £500 I was hoping for a higher limit.

does changing from classic to progress show on a credit report as a new account, with the previous classic card account being closed? or would it just carry on if you know what i mean....

Well I received the 'thanks but no thanks' letter today. Oh the letter was pleasantly worded but that didn't cheer me up at all!

Here's what they had to say....

Thank you for applying for a capital one credit card.

Unfortunately we've been unable to process your applicaction. Although we consider existing customers for some of our new products, you haven't fulfilled our criteria for the card that you applied for.

Your are a valued customer and I hope you'll continue to enjoy the benefits of your current capital one credit card.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    Yours etc...

I suppose I was pushing my luck in applying as I've only had my existing card for little more than 4 months. I only work part time earning just short of 10k which probably doesn't help.

Oh well, onwards and upwards as they say (I wish I know who 'they' were!) I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and clear the balance on my barclaycard as quickly as possible.

I remember when this first started. It was 6 months( Of holding current card ). It may still apply.

Both accounts would show. Once Classic is closed down and paid, about 1 month later when they report it would show as Closed/Cleared or something of that nature.

I had exactly the same letter a few days ago after applying for the 0% balance transfer for 7months card.

I've had a Classic for years but during that time (7/8 years ago) missed a number of payments. I have been very good for the past 6 years though and it has been sat at £1,000 limit. This time last year they upped it to £2,000 and 2 weeks ago they upped it again to £3k.

With a significantly better (although not yet perfect) credit report and a much better salary I thought it was about time I looked at a 0% card so that I can avoid paying Cap1 any more interest at 34.9%.

In an alcohol assisted moment of bravery(!) I applied for a Barclaycard Platinum but got the referal screen at the end. Thinking 'oops, I'd better lower my expectations', I went for the Cap1 0% card having read on here that they were allowing existing customers to apply and that I stood a good chance.

I got the referal screen for that too so gave it up as being too optimistic.

A few days later I get a letter through the post containing a sparkling BC Platinum card with 16 months 0% and huge limit! Followed a few days later by the 'sod off' letter from Cap 1.

As you can imagine I have since balance transferred my Cap1 balance away and wait to see how long it takes them to come crawling back :)
  • Lucky you tuffjam hopefully in time I'll get accepted for a better card too. Mind you I'll wait quite a while before trying again and in the meantime get my head down and clear off that pesky barclaycard.

You're probably quite right there Loony re the 6 months thingy. I didn't even think about that before applying, still you learn something new every day..

  • The link from this site let straight to the Application for the balance transfer card. it was stated somewhere that this could be up to £1500.

Went through question by question and filled in the amount of balance I required and they wanted all the numbers etc. Again Green tick, so, all section got the green tick and I was congratulated for successfully applying for that particular card.

Card and Pin and security number all arrived seperately, itdoes not specify which kind of card I was given. Underneath where I had to remove the pin it sayd to activate the card immediately as no balance transfer could not take place until card actived. I did this then noticed a balance of only £200 on the card.

Could this be illegal in that during the application process nothing led me to believe that I would not get the card I was applying for, but an inferior one.

This is definitely mis leading, has this happened to anyone else.

I have had a Capital One Classic card for 2 years now with a credit limit of £1500 (started of at £1000 then raised to £1500 after 6 months, not had any limit increases in a year and a half since, no late or missed payments for those 24 months).

My card reached is expiration date and I was sent a new card.

    My question is:-

Does it matter what colour the card is? I say this because if you look at the Capital One website it shows all their different cards each with a different design or colour.
My Classic card was had a light purple swish exactly like the classic card shows on the website.
When I recieved the new card it now has a blue swish exactly like the new Capital One balance card.

Seeing as you cannot select what colour card you recieve when you apply for Capital One card, I can only assume that the card design or colour is specific to that account type card.

How can I tell what type of card they have given me this time?

PS I applyed for a Progress card in November, before there was an option for existing members to apply. I was refered and then got a declined letter, thought this might help as a bit of background.

    Thanks
