Driving License Revoked

I had my driving license revoked after getting 6 points for speeding within 2 years of passing my test.
I've just passed my theory and practical test again. I've handed my license back to the DVLA to be updated.
Can anyone tell me if I will get an updated license back or a new license. The reason I ask is that when applying for car insurance, I'm not sure if I should say I've held my license for 3 years (when I originally passed), or for one month (as I've just passed).

Thanks in advance.

3 years. You'll get your original licence and licence number back not a new one. It doesn't work that way. You don't get a clean slate otherwise that would defeat the purpose of the points system.

Your insurance is going to be £mega
  • Thats the strange thing. I was paying around £350 before getting 6 points. After going to comparison websites and changing my application to show 6 points, it really didn't change by that much at all.
One of the questions was asked if I had been banned from driving, to which I answered "No", as I assume I haven't.
I was expecting the car insurance to be much higher. Any ideas why it isnt?

Wouldn't this be him getting a clean slate?

3years experienced driver as opposed to just passed?

You lied. You had been banned from driving.
  • I disagree. I think it's a whole new license you get with 6credits already there. I had mine revoked too for the same reason (sp30s) and when it come back it said 'licence held since' the date I passed again, not the the date I origionally passed. I always thought this ment it was a new licence unless anyone knows otherwise??

Also you have NOT been banned, so you are right to say no, and like yourself even with 6 points my insurance was only about £80 more.

Not banned, licence revoked - a different process.

He hasn't. His licence has been revoked until he passes his teat etc again, there is no time frame on this, it's NOT a ban.

Hmm, I would say you have. I would ring the insurer and clarify before you buy anything.
  • Seems I can't apply my 3 years no claims discount either, if I say I have a new license as each comparison site says I cant have that amount of NCD as I've only just started driving
I suppose will be become clear when I receive the license in the post. Fingers crossed it won't be "new".

A ban is given by a court for a period of time when you cannot drive.
When a licence is revoked, it puts you back as a learner - you can obtain a provisional licence and continue driving as a learner straight away.
