PCCN Fine - Bolton (Ashburner Street)

Options
Hi

I received a parking fine at weekend for parking in a restriced area of a car park

I attempted to pay on line, however, the reg has been inputted by NCP as V*** *** as oppose to Y*** ***. Is this enough reason to not pay, as they would be unable to trace my car?

Also, i have looked on this and other forums, and it appears that PCCN fines can basically be ignored anyway

Thanks

Assuming that NCP are not acting for a council then yes, ignore. If they are acting for a council then in this case ignore but make sure you keep all the paperwork.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

You have had a narrow escape there Bruce! So, you almost paid? Silly Billy!

Whether they can correct the reg no or not depends on if they have any photos. If they don't then you probably won't hear any more. If they do, you might; but as you now know, I believe, it doesn't make any difference because it is a scam unenforceable charge in any case.

    Don't pay, don't reply, don't appeal, don't contact them.

DO ignore each and every piece of toilet paper you will receive and they will realise you are one of the "Wise" ones that know it is a CON, and will give up wasting money sending letters that don't get answered and will go away.

See the top thread on the forum (sticky) to get an idea of the utter garbage you can expect to be treated to.

Yes good point by P the P, is it issued for a council? I was assuming it wasn't as if it had been it would have had the Council's name on top. The advice is good if it is.
  • At the top of the ticket, it says:

Notice of a breach of terms and conditions of parking at a car park owned or managed by National Car Parks Ltd.

Bolton Councul isnt mentioned anywhere on the ticket, unless the above covers it?

Also, it doesnt mention an Road Traffic Act etc, just for the breach of contractual terms and conditions.

If the incorrect reg does exist, will somebody be hounded for my fine?
  • Also, the reg on the fine could be a V or a Y, it isnt very clear

No, it's a "safe to ignore" one all right.

Presumably if the other registration exists at all it will be for a completely different make and model car so one hopes the owner will tell them to get stuffed.

I think you can check if the other reg does exist on one of those websites that you can use to check if a car is insured.

Anyway, stop worrying about it and be glad you realised this is just a scam whether they got the car reg right or not. You owe nothing.

If you haven't read it yet please read the top thread and watch the Watchdog clip on there as well as getting a preview of the letters that you might still receive. If you do just file them in a drawer marked 'scam'.:)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    NCP = Ignore.

Trust me, I have it from a good source within the company that they will not pursue you (or any other PCCN issued).

As an aside, if you do receive a ticket from Bolton Council, they do appear to have corrected the wording on their tickets now, following an appeal and FOI Act request made just over a year ago. However, there are still issues surrounding signs, road markings, use of CCTV, and other things in Bolton. Always worth doing some investigations if you ever get a PCN from the council (not just Bolton, of course).
