Edited: Try changing the view in explorer to be details (not icons/thumbnails)

Still got plenty of space left 58% free on my hard drive.

I can see "PF Usage" which is currently 1.16GB is that the Page File thing you mean?

@Gunjack Thanks, I'm happy to try your suggestions but can I just ask first about the TP Link thing, if it was that wouldn't it have been better when I disabled wireless to switch off Avast and try then because it was still slow then?

I have about 400 Max photos in total in the main folders split into a few folders, although I have always had about this many and it never used to be slow like this?

ps Gunjack I wouldnt bother with the ironing things only crease again as soon as you wear them!! Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!! :rotfl:

the point about using the TPlinl WLAN manager is that:-
1. it's one more process you can do without for elimination purposes and
2. Windows does at least a good job (if not better) of managing the wifi.

If. with all those other things off, the machine is still slow, then you may have been one of the unlucky ones post-avast v7 (as is my aged dad, who I still need to pop over to and sort out).

The other thing is, if the machine is still ok without all those extra processes running, then you can leave them off...the only thing on my XP pc running at startup is the av

p.s. if the pagefile is 1.16 GB, what's your current commit charge figures ??

With the Pagefile thing I think I may have got it wrong? I got the 1.16GB from Windows Task Manager is the PageFile figure in the control panel, system, advanced etc? Because the figure there is virtual memory 1470MB??

I have 1.5GB RAM in the PC

My commit charge at the moment is 1181716 / peak 1447304

that cc figure is massive !!!! Open task manager (Ctrl, Alt, Del) and show processes from all users in the Processes tab. What is using all that memory ???? Do you save several thousand tabs open in a browser ???

I only have Chrome open with 3 tabs and Thunderbird at the moment?!!
