BT Broadband: switch now or wait for 21CN?

Hi guys

I am thinking of switching to BT Broadband as they have some good deals + cashback which would save me some £££.

Not a lot of choice on my exchange, all we have is plain old BT wholesale ADSL+ (no LLU etc).

Looked my exhange up on samknows, apparently we are getting 21cn in June.

My question is this: should I switch now or wait until 21cn is enabled?

If I switch now, will I have to get another home hub to get faster speeds when 21cn comes online? I would assume that they would charge for this and wouldnt provide it for free.

21CN may make a difference to speed but as always it's dependent on how far you live away from the exchange. Personally I'd be a bit wary of locking yourself into a contract for eighteen months with BT when its possible other options may be available to you before the contract is up. I'm with Plusnet and get similar speeds to when I was with BT.

To answer your technical question, you don't need a new router to use 21CN.

I doubt anything else will come along anytime soon. Took them long enough to get us ADSL in the first place.

    Cheers anyway;)
  • Provided your router is not so old that it was manufactured before the ADSL2+ standard was finalised....so it is not implemented within the router.
